Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Current Facts About Heald Vs And A Real Colleges

On one hand you have REAL colleges, and on the other you have Heald. We all know about real colleges, so I will focus on Heald. I will only state facts. 1-Heald has lowered the entrance standards. The new so called standard is only in place to test out of E10 and M10. You can currently guess on EVERY answer, and score enough correct to be accepted to Heald. 2-Heald HAS "dumbed down" the curriculum, and no longer has the higher standards the institution was once known for. 3-Heald has removed the dress standard at many campus locations. At some campus locations, you will see "colors" on the gang players. 4-Heald is now known for recruiting students at bus stops and homeless shelters at some locations, if not all. 5-Heald is harassing in-school students by all means necessary, trying to get them into the classrooms. This will include multiple phone calls from different people on the same day. 6-Heald is now wiping noses and holding students hands, begging them to stay in school, so the school keeps the federal money coming in. 7-Heald is pushing over priced books on students, many of which are not even opened or used by some instructors. 8-Heald instructors are now calling students, which is not their job. 9-Heald Student Services (as currently designed at most campuses) is a waste of money. Many have called this department the "party department", or "fu** off" department, and others are trying to understand what they even do for students. 10-Heald has instructors who spend allot of time "surfing" the web during class. Others don't have correct credentials. Still others are doing personal business, and in a few cases, running a business during class time. 11-Heald FA keeps students waiting in halls and has a huge rate of student dissatisfaction. 12-Heald at most locations has a "fair haired" department, this would be admissions. They receive special perks for simply doing the job they are paid to do. An example of this would be lunches and/or dinners. Many are not allowed a proper lunch break. 13-Heald job placement is currently not up to historical standards. With current student quality and educational standards, many are not qualified for placement. An example of this would be admissions placing students into programs that demand background checks, which students can't pass.

So true. I hate to admit it. Heald is going down.

Career Services sucks now. They used to care. Most the good people are gone.. because.. well.. they're good. There's no one I can reach to any more to get guidance on my job. I call the "corporate" leaders. Both of them.. and they are useless. They don't respond.. probably because they don't know what they are doing. Which is what I heard from most of the other cs staff. They only go to the campuses that are doing well. And were already doing well before they even were hired.

This post makes me sad and embarrassed because it's so true. It's hard to confront it so directly and honestly. Most of the instructors, the honest employees, and many of our students deserve better than CCI and Heald. And you deserve prison, Jack M.

207 Sounds like a hag that works in the office sitting on her big tush. Don't get too comfortable though.

Oh 206... you're showing your ignorance again. That policy changed months ago. Stop looking back at your memorabilia of the days of yore. Or maybe you're a student that took 3 years to graduate from an 18 month program and are looking at outdated papers harkening back to your enrollment. Pro tip... career services assists you, they can't hand-hold you and help you stick the interview... assuming you even make it to the interview. Given how most Heald students can't even get to class on time (if they get there at all), I'd be amazed if they get to an interview on time.

Actually... you only need a BA to teach and it doesn't even have to be in the field you're teaching. They want an MA for managerial/PD positions. Stop pretending you work at Heald and know what the hiring practices are.

Students are adults who have made a decision to enroll in college. Curriculum is approved by accrediting bodies. Instructors meet qualifications with an M.A. in the field. Programs are reviewed. STOP making excuses for those who refuse to do the work, who refuse to take responsibility. My god, stop pinning it on private colleges. OR, if this is the problem, fund state colleges more so students go there. If they fail to do the work, they fail there also. You should hang out with Camden Kid. Ohh Boo hoo. Victims everywhere. If you are a felon, do some research and don't sign up for a criminal justice to join the freakin FBI.

This has been going on for at least a decade. It definitely got worse with CCI buying Heald in 2010.

"Maybe you are on the inside and want to see Heald fail for your own $$ gain?" How would that work? The stock is already at $.01.

My favorite post today. I had to retweet here. "What all of us collectively need to show is that there is no need for "buyers." Sure, there may be a need for a bit of capital influx, but that should take care of itself. I know for a fact that representatives of Cox, Johnson, and Rodman Capital Equity Partners were in Orange County trying to find a deal that would stick. It was a long, hard meeting, but I think we will see a climax to the action soon. "

Running a business during class time sound smart. It leads to double pay. How would this make a instructor dumb?

Blah blah blah. This is what open access looks like. I had a brief pt job at a community college and there is no difference. Why not shut those places down since the state taxpayers pay for them? Maybe you are on the inside and want to see Heald fail for your own $$ gain?

E10 and M10? Sounds like you haven't worked at Heald for about 2 years. How would you know what's going on?
