back further than 2005.
342- That is really the core of the problem. State schools are not sustainable either. The whole saddling some kid with tens of thousands in debt just to get a job was always a losing proposition, but as the greedy right wing has further destroyed labor and wages its hit a point where its all going to collapse. The students cannot pay - even if they wanted to there is only so much they can make at entry level jobs and it isn't enough to pay these loans plus do anything else. Only the saps try to pay these off and live like a total loser at mommys for a decade or two so some banker can make out like a bandit. This situation is going to just get more and more ugly as the days go by, every day the majority (~80%) of students who went to school since 2005 are seeing interest and fees pile on top of already unaffordable debt with no legal ways to do anything about it. If I worked at Sallie Mae or the department of education I wouldn't sleep very easy at night.
How in the hell do you expect these students to repay their loans? This is what happens when you have an out-of-date curriculum and a complete focus on greed and not having the student's best interest has created a horrible situation for those involved.
