Amazon same day delivery, along with keeping prices low, would be the nail in Grainger's coffin.

Amazon is engaged in a strategy of building out hyper local Distribution Centets to meet customer DEMANDS for not just next day delivery but same-day delivery
What is Graingers strategy ???
Grainger seems confused
Grainger is way too slow changing to a digital 21st century Company
I give them 5 yrs at most to change or be eaten alive by disrupters & intergrators
Speed is the key to survival
Time for new leadership
Including board shake up
Watch for larger stockholders to start putting pressure on Ryan & Board
I was let go from Grainger in April of last year. I had been a counter employee for 23 years. I was a dedicated, hard worker. I loved my company and was very proud of where I worked. I worked hard and provided the best customer service out there. I had excellent product knowledge, and shared it with my Co workers. I never called off work, and I was rolling with the changes, even the ones I didn't quite agree with. I worked my way up to a very good pay, 27 per hour. Pretty good living!! Then one day, it was over, no warning. I had no idea it was going to happen. They provided me with 7 months of full pay and benefits. But I was not provided a good reason why.. I have moved on and have landed on my feet. I am doing what I do best, working on the counter for a Grainger competitor. My feelings are still hurt because of the way it happened. To all those that read this or have a similar situation, there is life after Grainger!! You will be fine!! I miss my Grainger family but I am now glad it happened!! It was tragic at first but now I am in a better place. It's just ashame!!!

Jim Ryan needs to step down, he's under qualified and in over his head. He needs to man up and call it quits. Considering what the stock has done over the last 12 months, it's amazing he still has a job. If an Account Manager, TSR, or any employee under performed consistently like he has for the last 12 months, they would be fired. Grainger at one time was the king of MRO, that's not the case anymore. The competition has caught up and the manufactures of the products they sell are realizing that. If he really cares about the future of the company and the employees, he would give himself a 60 day notice.
Last year they let go over 800 people, 2016 just started and today let go over 300 people.
When will they fire the CEO Jim Ryan.... he needs to go
They keep the worst employees and let go the good ones most of the time and leadership are lazy. The price what what killed it with over paid leaders. Blame the high above that should have been fired.
I worked for Grainger for 3.5 years and saw all of this coming from day one of my hire. The only reason I saw this coming is because I knew that these dramatic changes will take place within 5 years from my hiring date which was early 2012. So I gave myself a 5 year plan to gain the experience and run for the hills. I left early 2015 and it was the best choice I made. I tell you, I've never seen more relaxed and comfortable people as the Grainger Employees I felt so bad for them. To see them satisfied and in their comfort zone as if they are untouchable just because they all have double digit year tenure ship. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF the Grainger employees were so comfortable they all wreaked of fakeness and arrogance as though GRAINGER is heaven and there is no other world out there. I hope top management would read this, every single Manager, Director, executive and up to the CFO and CEO, you all should be replaced immediately. You pretend to care about the employees and it seems as though the employees fell for it. In reality all you care about is you own position.
Grainger will be closing 30 branches by December, the centers will be outsourced to Mexico and Panama. The internal call center will be in Indiana.
Customer service is horrible at this point, by next year there will be closing 15 more branches. They have laid off over 400 employees this year, internal memos warns there are more to come. It is a shame the government is allowing american jobs to be outsourced. Grainger is not helping these other countries by providing low paying jobs.
Grainger prices are too high !!!! They make bad choice: they open a branch in manhattan , no parking, far from the train, someone up top need to go!!!!
They keep opening branches in bad areas. Whoever has stock need to get rid of it, they are going under. If they lay you off be glad, move on !!!!!!
Yesterday, Grainger Cranford NJ laid off the entire branch. Maspeth NY let go 6 people. It's has been a very exhausting day, we were told 30 locations will close.
There will be more layoffs 2016. Grainger is evolving, time for everyone to look for a job. Almost everyone there makes over 25.00 hr. They will let everyone go and rehire.
In Feb Manhattan, Bronx and Maspeth let go 5 people. Its frustrating going to work not knowing the day.!!!!
I was laid off yesterday, they align me to a branch in another state. They close that branch and laid off everyone that was align to the branch.
It was very slick, the branch I was at was doing well. They gave us to December, we have to come to work and hear .... we sorry for what happen. I been with Grainger for 15 years. It is hurtful and I am embarrassed, I work sooooooo hard everyday. I can't understand why nothing else was offered to us ?
I was officLly laid off from Grainger today with a last day in September.
likely to happen before june
Good luck to all of us
