http://www.mercurynews.com/peninsula/ci_14734106 Local school districts have given preliminary layoff notices to more than 500 teachers and other certificated employees because severe budget shortfalls are projected, according to the San Mateo County Office of Education.That\'s 10 percent of the certificated work force spanning kindergarten to 12th grade countywide, the education office said Monday.The office noted that the Redwood City School District sent out the most notices warning teachers they could be out of a job in the 2010-11 academic year.
