Thread regarding Bolivar County layoffs

We have 152 school districts here in Mississippi

We have 152 school districts here in Mississippi. That is 152 superintendents and their total salaries are over $14 million. Our state superintendent makes about $305,000 a year. In Bolivar county that have 6 school districts and just for that county the total salaries for just the superintendents are pushing $850,000 a year. If they had one district with on superintendent and say he/she made $125,000 a year that would save $725,000 a year not counting all of the staff that will be eliminated. That is a lot of good salaries saved for some better teachers. The largest district in the state is Desoto County and they have one superintendent. They are also one of the best districts in the state. The superintendents have a huge lobby in the legislature and they have tons of money to convice the legislature to keep it like it is! The legislature does not have the kids best interest at heart so I am with the Gov Barbour, cut it until they fix it!!
