Thread regarding City of Riverside layoffs

The Riverside school board decided to lay off 160 elementary school teachers Monday night and heard recommendations to entirely close Hyatt Elementary. The district will also stop busing to middle and high schools. The elementary teachers who will be let go include 124 teaching K through third grade. Those classes will be larger next year, up to 30 students. Estimates aere that those layoffs will save almost $6 million. The other 36 teachers will be laid off as a result of dropping enrollment, according to a note from RUSD Assistant Superintendent Kathleen Sanchez.
