11/1/09: PEROT, the Plano-based company that Dell Inc. plans to acquire is laying off workers in Nebraska.

Perot Systems Corp. is laying off 54 of its 900 workers in Lincoln, according to published reports.

Spokesman Joe McNamara said the layoffs were not related to the Dell deal.

Perot Systems (NYSE: PER), which is an information technology services company, employs Nebraska people for administrative and business services work for insurance companies, officials said.

In September, Rock Rock-based Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) reached an agreement to buy Perot Systems for $3.9 billion, which would be the largest acquisition in Dell's history. The deal is expected to be completed by January.

Dell, the third-largest personal computer maker in the world, employs 16,000 Central Texas workers. Earlier this month, Dell announced plans to close a manufacturing plant in North Carolina, cutting 900 jobs.Read more: Austin Bus Journal
