Back in November and December of 2008 Zachry nixed sixty contractor positions from our Invista's Victoria plan. This was all done (apparently) at Invista's request. Those layoffs began in late November and lasted thru the end of the year. Now, there is a widespread talk that there will be another cycle of layoffs and that this time the cuts will be deeper affecting definitely more than sixty folks. The construction business is almost halted, and just looking at the index of architectual billings there is not even a slight hope that months that are ahead of us will bring some business uptick. On the other hand, Zachry was heavily leveraging contractors so my assumption is that they will be the most affected with their contracts expiring or being canceled. Call it recession or depression it's surely very bad time to be in the heavy construction business.
