Thread regarding Quest Software Inc. layoffs

Still at Quest? Why?

I am a former employee who was axed years ago and I just wanted to check how Quest was doing. I’m amazed things have not improved with layoffs still being a thing at Quest. My question is why do people stay? If you’ve been at Quest long enough to remember Jeff or even Dell, you know layoffs and cost cutting are coming they are always coming. So why stick around? What keeps you working for a company that is always circling the drain?

Useless middle managers indeed! Especially the support managers! Responsible for nothing but getting on calls and passing information from one team to another. Textbook walk around with a clipboard to look busy except now its wear a headset all day and act like you're out of breathe and just so stressed. Im sure it must be so stressful picking out who is getting laid off next making sure the folks left behind don't end up exposing you for the useless joke you are.

Waiting for the pay off is what keeps us going but I know 2 people with 2nd jobs. WFH makes it too easy to freelance.

Well not a big mystery, useful people get sacked and useless mid level managers are thriving, they would hardly get a job flipping burgers but can cook up some useless meetings and product release announcements.Quest is a great place if you absolutely lost in your career, you be doing something no one care about and getting a nice payout once that useless position is cut out. I know people who paid off their mortgage with Quest layoff money. Some folks like it so much they take cash take a year all paid holiday and come back for another Quest round. It’s one of the best companies to be nobody in.

(OP replying here) I left Quest years ago and worked 3 jobs ( all remote and working two at the same time for a while) before retiring for good this year. There are good jobs and companies out there with none of these layoff issues. Quest has been on a cycle of laying folks off since the late ‘00s long before even Dell, Jeff and whomever runs things now. Hence my wonder why folks put up with it. Is it just fear that nothing better is out there?

As far as I can see, no company is safe nowadays. Have you landed somewhere safe, @OP? Where?
