Before Shell can layoff Citizens, they should first remove foreigners in visa. We cannot have willing Americans be available and not given the opportunity. If you are laid off, ask for data on this, not just the Bull Cr-p Age based information they share.

as has already been discussed and proven, the best wells engineers in the world are americans
the other thing that may not be clear to you yet is that, at the end of the day, this company makes money by selling energy and so anyone not directly involved in doing this can be cut and the company would still function. this includes literally the entire hub of india
Simple truth is there are more experienced and better suited global resources around, who simply are more capable and committed.
This is the correct take. Jobs aren’t going to India for the talent but for cost per FTE. US graduate hires make more in sign on bonuses than most experienced technical contributors in India make in a year.
Being a global company talent should compete on level terms, but let’s not pretend cost isn’t a driving factor to moving work overseas, especially for functional roles.
An Indian here.. the folks in India should look at what’s happening in China today. A lot of manufacturing jobs moved to china, then other cheaper places. The same will happen with IT offshoring. So don’t get complacent, it might not be in the timeframe of your career, but the next generation.
You think the board and exec somehow chose India because you are superior, you are foolish. They are chasing the cheapest labor. Today it happens to be you.
I enjoy laughing at the FACT that cow p-e is sold on amazon india for the purposes of consumption
you’re the one who needs to wash your hands i suspect. i’m not too worried about job security from indian outsourcing because im the one they call to redo or fix your subpar deliverables
IT is about tangible deliverables
If you turn things in on time and they match or exceed sufficient quality, then you’ve nailed the job.
Maybe you’re used to some BS email job where you have to put on a show in person to justify your existence, but that’s not suitable for IT.
There is no benefit to doing this in the office after the point where tasks are clearly scoped.
Wael's achievement : made everyone fight with each other
Dutch LNNs turning redirecting attention to Indian outsourcing problem :)
Indian worker here. My colleagues and I have great fun reading this comments very much. It is the only better joke we share than the dummy support stories. How do Americans even know how to power on their computers without holding hands. Wish I can bottle some of this tears and sell them. Have good year!
Fully agreed
Dude’s whining about the lack of talent management…. I’m tell you why: your own talent is as hidden and unyielding as a sphincter – you know, the gatekeeper that's never on show!
America is made of immigrants. Let's welcome everyone who adds value.
Folks, let's report everyone if American jobs are lost and foreigners are given the job
https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/uscis-tip-form
More noise in the system would reduce all foreigners over time...the tip website is anonymous just like this site.
we cannot get expat jobs; why should they; where is our talent management?
LNN here. Bottom line the living standard USA vs. Western Europe is roughly similar. Yes more salary & lower taxes here, but holy sh-t your insurances, groceries and school tuitons…
So it’s about much more than pay. I think I speak for most if not all expats that’s it’s great to be a part of daily life here too in all its forms. We pay our taxes and contribute… equally?! I get the sentiment but the post below below about reporting fraud to UCSIS is total bullocks. The company is an international one and determines HR policy based on that. It plays the game that your government created legally. If you’re annoyed by internationals working here, you shouldn’t have entered this house. I’m on a L1 btw, which isn’t a visa type that Shell misuses to replace an American or seek a lower salary option. If anything be away that hard working immigrants are what make up the core fabric of this country and be more angry about the many US jobs leaving to India (which btw will fu-k this company up even more in the medium / long run).
LFG.
The best part about working for Shell is the incompetence. Guys just rest and vest. It’s the best. Sit back, go to all the townhalls, let it all wash over you. Nothing is happening in the mothership. No one is working, we’re all playing the same game. Relax enjoy life and the sweet nothingness that is Shell.
@2frg+1wcd82im Last thing the F750 hears is BRRRRT…now that’s funny….
Canadians punt on third down.
@2uqe+1wcd82im a GIF of you eating popcorn doesn't sound entertaining, so don't bother. A GIF of you being chased by a F-750 would be hilariously funny though.
@OP+1wcd82im
is that you Donald ?
My experience with workers from Holland, Germany and the Middle East has been good. Good people doing great work.
Those FU--ING Canadians, on the other hand...
I wish I had a GIF of myself eating popcorn while watching everyone tear each other apart in this thread. It's so entertaining!
And when most of IT is moved to low salary Bangalore, the BNG staff will move to Chevron IT who is opening next door, just for a few roepies more. Mark my words.
SIEP had like 150 H1Bs in years. Why? To fill key tech gaps. How many jobs overall got offshored? I mean all of Shell will be in Bangalore soon. We need to focus on Wael and not our colleagues. We have ideas. Wael has none.
Geoscience hands down should be Americans. Any type of oil and gas exploration or engineering in America should be Americans. We cut our teeth on this sh-t.
If Americans in IT want to keep their jobs then they need to get their as--s to the office. India is mediocre but they show up and they are cheap.
They were talking about geoscience staff. Geoscience recruiting in the US has always required at least an MSc and many have PHDs. Engineering and most non technical functions all allow bachelors only hires.
Wonder how many local non nationals and LTIAs would be just as excited to work US based projects remotely from their home country office and respective local pay?
It’s ok to admit you’re only here because you want US pay. You don’t have to believe the hot air they put down on your visa application to justify there’s no available people in country to do the job.
You’re mixing general (cheaper labor) H1B’s with specialized and more expensive L2’s, L1’s, E2’s etc. The latter group is generally not taking ‘our’ job, but filling either a gap in competence locally and/or due to development because we’re dealing with a global company here. Don’t be so shortsighted. You must not work at Shell.
Lot of weak insecure folks on here that have a hard time competing against harder working talent. Become more marketable!
You sure about that? The Europeans and Asians come with MSc degrees and PHD’s while a lot of us working in Shell only have a BSc degree. That is not making you more marketable.
If they lay off Americans and keep similar foreigners on a visa, let's report. Don't just walk into the sunset.
https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/uscis-tip-form
And let local newspapers and congressmen know.
Dutch have a union. what do we have here?
In the geoscience world, American educated students are by FAR the best trained candidates. Seriously, would anyone who knows geoscience hire someone trained in Asia or Europe if they could get someone trained at the Colorado School of Mines? No, they wouldn't. Most of the foreign students who are trained in the US have long since received their greencards, yet Shell is replacing them and other US based staff with Dutch and UK LNN staff in droves, so clearly it is not about "talent" - it's about dollars. And don't claim that Shell is a foreign company that invests in the United States - it WAS a US company (SEPCO) that was ki-led off by RDS in the 2007-2020 timeframe. SEPCO was WAY more successful than RDS, even outcompeting RDS internationally with SEPCO's international branch PECTEN (read the book "The Offshore Imperative - Shell Oil's Search for Petroleum in Postwar America" by Tyler Priest if you don't know about this).
I’m for Americans in American jobs yet let’s be honest here - mediocre performance is common. Lot of people have fallen asleep.
I’m all for bringing in a few good expats to improve certain areas in the business. So is the company. Deal with it or find another American job (there are plenty).
There’s an important distinction between “willing” Americans and truly competent ones. The global talent at Shell is here because they’re filling critical gaps — in a non-American company that has also created thousands of us jobs for Americans because of that decision to operate here. If the idea of a global workforce doesn’t sit right at this global company, there are plenty of U.S.-centric companies that might align better with your preferences.
@1sgp+1wcd82im: that issue most likely exists in your mind, or do you have evidence with n>1? Bet you don’t. Like someone else said earlier: become more marketable. The US has to tap into excellence beyond just the US to remain a winner.
Issue is non-citizen applicants willing to take lower JG roles with more experience. US base pay is high in order to be competitive in the US. That makes it a huge pay bump for every other base country to come here on local terms. Because of that they’re fine staying stagnant in JG terms.
If you’ve observed evidence of H1B abuse or misuse, it can be reported. Doubt one offs would be addressed, but more reports for a single company would trigger a flag.
https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/uscis-tip-form
Shell came here and still is here as a foreign investor. It created thousands of well paid jobs for Americans. International mobility is part of company policy, not up to populistic trends in society and politics. In short: become more marketable.
My experience is LNN’s are JG5-3’s and here for a reason: delivery. Better than the average local person around. They’re afaik also not H1B’s, if you’re refering to the Vivek/Elon debate on X.
All Local Non Nationals (LNN) should be sent home in 2025. They are taking many American jobs.
Americans are generally not hired these days for expat roles anyway. but foreigners are brought in to take jobs. cant believe we have no local skills or motivation in this industry..
Totally agree. Americans deserve to have their jobs . Foreigners- go get jobs in your own country
