Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Is there an increase in the number of senior employees being pushed out?

It would make sense, because seniority, coming with accumulated knowledge and proven skills, costs the company more. But I’ve noticed as of recently that they’ve been targeted more frequently than usual in my immediate environment. They are being replaced by very young employees who barely know the basics, if they are being replaced at all. Losing all these veterans is not really smart, given the overall decline in our performance.

Once you are a target, your age is not going to help you. Schwab will drum up something to force you to quit.

Yes, this was my experience as well. Fake performance improvement plan to justify their unreasonable workload and false urgency, yet no amount of "improvement" in accordance with the plan was recognized or validated. My skip manager was the ultimate gaslighter in her goal to force me out, and my direct manager was her puppet. Interesting to see that this is common throughout Schwab.

Just start deleting all your hard work. Throw away whatever you have that will be of use to your potential replacement. Once you are a target, your age is not going to help you. Schwab will drum up something to force you to quit. They will set you up to make mistakes and then threaten to yank your license if you do not quit. Then you will have no choice but quit. Just watch for the signs. Doesn't matter how many years or experience you have. So many employees who thought it would not happen to them actually has this happened to them. Normal people would probably think their tactics are over the top but that is how they work.

No, of course not. That's illegal. It's also all us 55+ people who do the work. The young people are all lazy and entitled and insist from working from home so they can essentially not work. If it wasn't for us oldtimers nothing at Schwab would get done. It would be corporate su----e to push us out.

As the saying goes “You don’t retire from Schwab, Schwab retires you”. This has been going on as long as I can remember, this isn’t new at all.

Not new.

We've pushed out seniors for years. It got worse when we started underwriting insurance. The company pays for medical care from a fund directly. Get rid of people who are statistical risks.

Seniors are also more likely to push back on stupidity. And our STS group has a lot of that. Other groups do too.

Others posted good advice here. Record everything. Document everything. If you're a protected class fight them. Over 40 is protected.

Not surprising at all. And with the great documentation and product teams we have, we shall have more exciting tech lines when the new kid decides to play around a piece of code which no one knows what it is for.
