Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Stressed and unproductive

Working here feels impossible. I can’t focus and get things done when the fear of layoffs is always hanging over me. The second you start to feel comfortable, someone whispers about more job cuts. The stress is truly becoming too much. I have no idea how to deal with this.

Intel isn’t worth your mental health. Set up your nest egg and a good time and g t f o on your terms

Perhaps you went into the wrong field. A lot of us are here because our parents said so. They told us to either become doctors or engineers because the careers pay well. Arguably, they were working on their own retirement plans, but that's just my point of view.

Instead of the woe-is-me approach, do better. Figure out a better career yourself and don't blindly tell your kids to be engineers or doctors.

If you are looking for empathy, you've come to the wrong place. Use your time to put your benefits towards therapy sessions or something.

OP, i understand what you going through. Most of us are in similar situation. Having acknowledged that, I don't think this is the right place for getting moral support. You probably noticed the same from the comments. There are only 3 options here, try to stick around and push through this rough time, get a new job/try consulting or retire.
If you have a weekend passion, you could use this chance and try to monetize on that. day trading may be.. These things, hopefully can make you feel rewarded.

People posting how they can’t cope with what is going on is so monotonous, too many participation trophies handed out. No guarantees in life you just deal with what’s thrown at you. OP you are still alive with no worries of something dropping on your head, put things in perspective.

OP grow a pair of ba--s and quit then you can spend your time focusing on a new job or career path. But whatever you do stop sniveling it’s never a good look.

This is not the place to feel better about your situation. Get out of your fetal position, puff your chest out. Your job is to find another job, and stop whining

Well no one is hiring former Intel employees. We are not viewed in a popular light throughout industry

It is the same for everyone, started 3 years ago. You are not alone. Listen to your heart, and prepare to look for other opportunities.

How many jobs outside of Intel have you applied for? If you aren't doing anything to get out of your situation then it is on you. If you need to hear someone else whisper about job cuts before you react you are kind of out of touch. Intel situation is dire and if you can't deal with the stress focus that energy on getting yourself into a job more suited to you. Expect a pay cut though, handling stress and changing workloads is expected in high paying jobs.
