The Volt MADE the plug in hybrid market.
GM OWNED it.
The platform needed a small pick up and a mini/microvan. Mary totally abandoned the concept in favor of the useless ev program and our competition took it ran with it.
Unless a vehicle has its own onboard power supply, it becomes a mere facsimile
This alone was enough to show Mary the door. Instead gm now has to "protect" the notion that the first gm ceo was successful when she is trash.

One was ex Army the other was current Army special forces.

They need better counseling to prevent snapping mentally.

2 Honda hybrids in my driveway. Seemless transition from gas to electric. No charging concerns, absolutely trouble free, and 42 mpg.

That's about high prices and the lack of public chargers.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. The vast majority of the American public hate EVs too. The time EVs spend on dealer lots and the low sales speak for themselves.

Right, take product portfolio advice from a guy that ran Nissan which now needs to merge with another auto company in order to survive due to its own poor product portfolio. Makes sense.

China's Greed for Lithium is Ki-ling the Tibetan Plateau and fouling ground water on an epic scale. Yeah, their winning alright. They win the coal fired power plant building race too.

There are several reasons why CH is ahead of America. Almost non-existent labor cost. Government subsidized materials, factories and plant equipment. And a government that strong-arms technology developed by global companies that do business there.

Can a company like General Motors create a competitive vehicle despite all of this?
YES. GM knows how to make an inexpensive electric car. I work in engineering and happen to know this first-hand. But they are also greedy and have wildly expensive, noncompetitive labor costs due to the UAW. They gravitate toward big cheap vehicles that net the highest margin (TRUCKS).

That doesn't mean that GM will not have their Korean operations create an all-electric Trax and offer it for $20k eventually. I don't think they will actually do this since they are offering the ICE version for 30k. It comes down to having to get the most margin to compensate shareholders while also paying extremely high UAW labor costs.

Unless CH EVs actually enter our market and threaten GM & Ford on an existential level, I believe our product portfolios will be trucks, trucks and more trucks with a few Chevy & Ford branded imports for CAFE credits sprinkled in.

The bigger issue isn't that CH is doing anything brilliant. They are able to pool global IP theft with a heavily subsidized industry and leverage that against all competition. Look at what is happening in Europe right now. Their native auto industry is almost decimated due to the inclusion of these vehicles. That is why the US must never allow unfair trade practices to level our industries.
