Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Insurance reminder for recently laid off

Hey, everyone! I’m the wife of an ex 2U employee who told her husband not to take the job when it was offered to him. I told him to start applying other places when I saw how empty HQ was and I brought up everything I read on this page. He was somehow shocked that they were terminating his position in August but offering him severance or a new made up position he absolutely wasn’t qualified for, had no pay increase, and that would have required an insane commute to Crystal City. I told him to take the severance before they had nothing to give and never look back. Looks like it was a good thing I did.

If you have a family and have life insurance through 2U, contact your insurance company immediately and ask to continue your policy. You have 30 days to do, the rates are pretty good, and it will save your family a ton of stress while you job hunt. And the COBRA rates for health insurance are astronomical so apply for Medicaid and you will be instantly covered because you are unemployed.

I hope this helps and best of luck to everyone out there. I’m so sorry this his happening.

Funny. Nah, this is much cheaper than the co-pay and I get the benefit of at least helping one person. Best of luck out there!

I hear therapy is a better place to vent than some anonymous layoff site, but go off I guess

I mean, yeah, I did tell him so. And you can totally feel sorry for him. But I’m now in a position where I have to work three times as hard to help him find a job, take care of our toddler, and run a business that requires booking more clients during a time of year when I would usually prep for my next season. And I could stay angry about it, but that isn’t going to get us anywhere.

For sure a lot of this is a vent. But for anyone out there who is in this boat, I’m just trying to help them avoid the anxiety that comes with being unemployed or having an unemployed partner and worrying about what happens if one of you dies with no backup. Especially with how much this company has put folks in a tough position.

Thank you for the heads up. It’s appreciated and this lay off has actually turned into relief for me. It’s been a sh-t show in a dumpster fire.
