Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

I have not seen any positive changes since Kelly Ortberg arrival.

Still the same will happen if you dare speak up about any problems or concerns. You will be made a villain, and have a PIP slapped on you or be on the next layoff notice short list.

Also have not seen any change in behavior in our group's manager. This person has a well-known reputation of retaliating against subordinates or having Boeing HR slap a PIP on you. The group culture has existed long before Ortberg's showing up and still does.

"People outside of the company think when there’s a layoff, they layoff the worst performing individuals. In reality, the managers layoff the people who are most outspoken in criticism of the companies methods who are generally the more conscientious and intelligent engineers, and mechanics."

We have a hiring/firing system not based on merit but subservience (or more informally butt kissing).
Oddly enough that is the same system in our government.

Or different twist many years ago. Managers kick out the experienced productive guy from the program because managers think he's costing us toooo much. Another Boeing program snaps the guy up in a hurry. Original program realizes without the experience guy no one in program can replace him so tries desperately to get him back. New program refuses to give him up. Managers in old program point fingers at each other saying no what, it was not my idea to kick out experience guy.

It appears he’s trying to get rid of some of the number of layers of Management. At one time every single employee had seven or more layers of management above them. It was ridiculous.

He’s also getting rid of departments that don’t add any value like DEI etc. Trying to get rid of all the overhead that drives up the cost of doing business.

I’ll give him a credit for that. Problem is there so many extraneous layers of management that are so embedded in that company trying to get rid of all them. It’s gonna be a real chore.

Company needs a flat management structure. Kind of what mark Zuckerberg said. Having manager’s managing manager’s is a complete waste of resources.
