Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Am I the only one who hates “FUN” meetings?

I have always hated these meetings since I got hired but tolerated and participated because it’s not weekly thank goodness.

I understand there are a lot of extroverted employees that are remote and they need that interaction but can it please be voluntary?! Especially this last one with Christmas I just need to complain to get it out of my system.

I hate being in camera, I don’t celebrate Christmas and I am not going to buy a ugly sweater or Santa hat just to amuse people I don’t have any interaction with outside of work. I hate the passive aggressive comments “ oh you don’t celebrate like everyone else?” said in a snarky tone which makes the whole meeting get quiet and awkward and frankly I don’t have the money to spend on something I’m going to use literally once. Maybe if I got more than a 20 cent raise this last year (which still blows my mind since I got a 4/5 on the review from management.) I could blow my money in a stupid Santa hat to play your d-mb grinch game but alas I need food and diapers and to feed my kids and want to be left alone to do my job, which I do very well if I go by every single 1:1 I’ve had this year, yet the department is behind on productivity but they still insist we do “ fun meetings” twice a month that last almost a whole hour it’s torture I like my job I just hate playing pretend nice with people I literally don’t even speak to outside of these meetings or being made to feel guilty for not celebrating a holiday

It is someone's ridiculous idea of torture. Some people come to work to work, then others try their best to do nothing and get paid for it. News flash no one wants to hear about your cat on every single call, no one cares that your husband is a drunk and your mother hates him. We all know you spend your days puttering around the house doing dishes and laundry. Your daughter's work stories matter to no one but you. The ones that do the least are the first to jump on the micro manager's bandwagon, oh I'll help plan the virtual party while thinking “This will get me out of real work.” Their problem is they don't realize it's not going to get them anywhere, that raise or promotion isn't coming. One of the biggest problems with Optum is the horrible management that wastes everyone's time on these stupid activities because they lack the intelligence to create something that might be worthwhile to the company and its members. UHC would be better off dismantling most of Optum than all of the new companies they a quite. Optum has always been UHCs redheaded step child.

Fun meeting! Where else can you see on zoom what actually the company has done to the managers, directors, vp’s. Most look super unhealthy, their hair is all burned and over processed, they use screens to hide the condition of their houses or if u see the office it looks like a hoarder lives in it, clothes look like goodwill. This is the face of the company. They should call them a reality check of why not to get into management.

Introverts Unite! Individually. In your own home. At your convenience. If so desired. RSVP optional. Have a good day - or not. You do you 😏

Before I was laid off we had a team meeting everyday. The manager was a micromanaging. It was horrible. Everyone looked at each other with rbf. Only a few would talk and talk. Those were the ones that didn't have to worry about production. Then once a month we had a team lunch were we would be on camera watching each other eat, how stupid. One time we had a Christmas lunch on camera and the managers would pick someone to sing a Christmas song like that was fun or something. I hated every minute of it. What a joke.

IMO, those "fun" meetings are run by the high school prom court who honestly believe that high school were the BEST years of their lives and can't imagine anyone who didn't love being a teenager! oy.

I accept your perspective as valid.

Please accept mine and go away.

Fun meetings 2x a month is a lot and a waste of productivity time. Try taking a PTO day during every “fun” meeting, however make an effort to attend meeting like Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day, St Patrick’s Day, etc

Because some employees complain if they don't. They want engagement to feel like a team or have some interaction remotely. They were the ones who had office jobs at some point and liked that aspect of it. Tend to be needy or have something lacking at home. Single, or no kids. Or an older empty nester. Just my observations. Lower grades seem to like this as well.

This company is truly inclusive...from an extroverted hetero-normative cis Christian Caucasian coworkers with children perspective. Which may be the majority here, in leadership.

Happy Kwanzaa!

Be grateful you don’t get the meetings I do. Berated 24/7 even though you do the work of 5 people. I’ll take a fun meeting any day.

It seems like there is more extroverts than introverts in the company but I agree. I don’t dislike any of my co workers but I don’t care to know about just personal lives or to share information about mine but it feels like if you stay introverted you don’t get to climb the corporate ladder and will be the forts to be let go, I loathe meetings in general but still engage in Viva and in teams chat I don’t see why a weekly or bi weekly meeting is needed for half the departments when everything can be sent via email

I hear ya. As a fellow introvert, meetings, parties, etc. are mentally draining. Extroverts just don't get it.
