Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

RTO is most definitely just an attrition strategy

It’s an easy way to get rid of many of us for free. If it doesn’t immediately work, they’ll come up with more compliance criteria. I’m sorry that this is happening to all of us. I’m especially angry for the people for whom it will be too costly or unmanageable due to commuting or personal issues. What a way to show us again how little we all are appreciated.

There are people that got let go recently that did not get a severance package

Well, if they "right size" everyone, you get money in the form of severance. So definitely better to call their bluff and get that cut of money from them.

I heard at the end of the huddle the new CEO invited everyone to enjoy some delicious cake after they dropped the RTO bo-b. I wonder if they even considered it was their “let them eat cake” moment or not?

Either way they’re going to get rid of employees. 1) they don’t comply with RTO and lose a bunch of employees. 2) if everyone calls their bluff and returns the company will “right size” everyone and lay them off.

Either way Franco, Webb and A&M get what they want and achieve maximum value for a future sale of the company.

The person that keeps telling people to quit needs to get their bluff called. Everyone should go in, regardless, and see if Fossil CAN support everyone going in without a crash/burn disaster.

I personally don't think it can be done, so I'll be sure to have popcorn waiting for everyone.

LOL it could be Franco too. That would not surprise me either. Can you feel the energy in this room!? 🤣

It’s nice to see James Webb has found this site and is commenting away encouraging people to quit and calling them part timers.

Another thing to consider is this message in the previous topic: @tko+1w2MPVUT

That sounds like development has hours all over the place because of the fact that the teams are no longer centralized. Local employees commuting into the office will be en route during the super tiny window that is available to meet with people in India. India is 11 1/2 hours ahead of Dallas time.

Then they shouldn't have given people remote contracts. I did not sign a contract for a hybrid schedule: it was a 100% remote contract.

If I was a hybrid employee, I would have had a desk at the office. I don't. If I go in, I basically have to find a place that's not occupied and sit there.

Not all of the equipment I used was company provided. I would hope that they are prepared to fill in those gaps. I have no qualms of going into the office, but I'm annoyed that if they aren't going to adhere to this contract, what other contracts are they going to completely disregard?

Remember - current hybrid model already requires MWTh in office. It was never fair to anyone that individual teams simply decided to opt out of following company policy and those exceptions should have never been approved (THAT was the bad decision). So the fact there is so much upheaval now simply proves people were taking advantage of the situation. Enforcing the policy is 100% the right move, and levels the playing field. It has been a long time coming. If people can't comply, that's ok, as it will help streamline coming rightsizing in the new year.

Get back to work or quit. We need dedication not part timers

Once again, more attrition. Wanting to quietly force a layoff. Good luck to Fossil, when your good workforce goes away.

Oh wait. A lot of it got replaced with cheaper labor in India.

Go take a look at the company and website reviews. 1 and 1.5 stars all around. Stop being too busy pretending that your coworkers are "part timers" and actually listen to what the Fossil customers really want.

They better upgrade the WiFi since it hardly works as is. Half our team doesn’t even have computers that work properly, most are using their personal mouse/keyboard/monitors, can IT gets all of that new equipment before march?

Yes we did believe would be “forever” because our team signed contracts laying out our ability to work from home and only come into the office an as needed basis.

Layoffs multiple times per year. Now taking away the one thing that keeps us sane and mentally stable amid all the depressing constant bad news. They really know how to show us they care about us but hey we got free cake!!!!!

"get back in your car and quit whining or just quit"

I have to wonder if this foul attitude is part of said attrition strategy too. 🤣

Did you all believe that remote work was forever? Sure it's great but yeah get back in your car and quit whining or just quit!

When you consider how many of the remote workers no longer have desks at the office...

How long did it take to do the last office move around before the pandemic? Do you really think that they can get everyone up and running in the location without any snags by March 3rd?

How many people do we even have left with IT to help with that kind of setup/migration, knowing that a lot of it has also been outsourced to India?

This makes me really agree with your thinking. Fossil just doesn't want to pay out expensive severance costs while getting rid of a lot of people. Also, a mass layoff is bad press all around.
