Thread regarding SAP layoffs

"Rest, recharge, and spend time with your loved ones..."

Anyone else getting these pre-holiday-leavetaking emails from upper management, exhorting their orgs to "rest, recharge, and spend time with your loved ones," but wondering what's on the immediate other side of the holidays, in early January, when all the "we're back now" all-hands meetings kick off? It makes one anxious about taking additional PTO during that time, for FOMO ("Did I get a layoff email in my absence?")...

I worked all through Christmas of 2023 on the promise from my manager that I would not be laid off. A few days into January of 2024 - I was laid off. The only woman on the management team so I should have known.

Because it definitely wouldn't occur to me to step away from slaving at my dream job to spend time with loved ones, without some elitist to-ser's email telling me to do so.

The board tell you to rest and recharge.

But your manager tells you we need 3 people covering the queue every day, and "we all need to do our bit". So even though I have banked up time off, I can't use it for an extended break, after working all year with very few days off and covering for colleagues who went away for 2 weeks vacations, now I can't have one?

Hate these c suite clowns. So out of touch with even their own company.

@1ljz+1w3JgtvY Yep, usually in the new year they announce the new round of layoffs once people have enjoyed their Christmas and management prepares for the layoffs. This is the corporate trend.

They will mandate 5-day RTOs and copy their favourite sweatshop company Amazon. Those with WFH contracts or live far away will be told one month in advance to come in NOW, or be sacked. Those who don't resign will be VERPed. Once enough people resign, they will sack the remaining workforce they need to pump the share price higher. The remaining skeleton of the company will be overworked and will resign.

The level of cynicism is completely off the scale.
