Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

AI brings potential opportunities but are we ready ?

Still working with consultants, who are trained by the vendors, Citi employees spend most of time playing politics. The main fun lies in driving out new joiners and not adopting the change. To outside financial markets and technology markets we are completely outdated. Note the vendor consultants we favor might become our next enemy soon.

Too many siloed groups ( headed by managers who are control freaks ) in Citi not wanting to work together least they loose control. Hence it’s a spaghetti of disjoint , inconsistent, disparate systems and data that can’t possibly be retrofitted to work together. Why ? Because the managers who own them are in a tug o war of who controls what ? Why ? Cause incompetence breeds insecurity.

Citi has been attempting to do this since long before the "AI craze" it used to be referred to as "machine learning" and they thought they could just feed our jumbled mess of data in and fix all our problems. I was personally involved in 3 attempts that went nowhere.
