Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Are nvidia and Azure competitors? Should I hide my new employer's name or job title?

Me and a coworker are handing in our notice soon. Both managed to get jobs in AI and cloud security, respectively. Would Nvidia or Azure be considered competitors to Cisco? I'm trying to figure out if I should not disclose my new employer's name, or even go as far as to withhold my new job title. My concern is if they think we are going to competitors, they will just walk us and we lose out on two weeks of salary during our notice period. Also, I think our director would be the type to try and call our new employer and get our offers rescinded. Vindictive fellow who already has "two strikes" against him.

We don't wish to burn bridges, but don't want to go without a salary for two weeks or risk losing our new jobs either.

Thank you, and god bless!

Azure and Nvidia are both ten times the size of Cisco and more. They would not stoop so low as to consider Cisco in their league.

Non competes wont hold in court..trust me. Judges dont like companies being able to prohibit people from makin a living. Just abide by confidentiality agreements and you are fine. Good luck!

You confuse your manager into thinking you were laid off by saying you are leaving to spend time with family.

Who taught you composition and grammar? Go back, and do not come back here until you put a sentence together.

No legal requirement in the US to provide a notice. Just know it will burn a bridge. You can refuse to disclose where you are going instead. Good luck! Take us with you!

you aren't required to tell anyone anything about what you are doing post-Cisco

if someone asks, just tell them you're taking six months off to unwind

Unless you have a non-compete agreement, you are not legally bound to tell them where you're going. If you have a non-compete agreement, I would read it to make sure you are not violating the terms. Otherwise, I would just tell them something like "I'm pursuing a new opportunity that better aligns with my career plans" or something like that. You can say this so you don't burn bridges. But honestly, you don't have to even say that. I'm not a lawyer, just what I would do.
