Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Coal or ca$h in our stocking?

Any ideas what if any % bonus remote workers will get this year. It would be pretty harsh to layoff so many AND keep the bonus $ too. Managers feel free to chime in if you have received any guidance on this too.

I haven’t heard anything about a bonus. What is that?

@1eyk+1w1fuTt7 - bonus is paid at the discretion of the business. Sure, there are rules for how to calculate bonus, but end of the day, your manager and director decide what if anything you actually get.

This post is complete rubbish. Remotes will get sane bonus as hybrid

It amazes me how many people don't understand basic concepts like how bonus is calculated and awarded or how promotions work or how you gain merit raises etc. Do you blindly take jobs not understanding the calculation of metrics you are measured on?

Bonus can be calculated at any time, by any employee. They literally tell you how to calculate it and what it is based on at the beginning of every year. If you don't know how promotions work, that is on you. Hint: it has nothing to do with tenure or how well you do, this has been true via policy since Dell started.

The bonus is your managers choice to give you one like a raise. If you work for a toxic manager like I did forget the bonus, let alone the raise. It is all about politics and favoratism at Dell, it was alive in well in my group.

You're right, the "organizational planning" line in the policy is vague. To me, that means: WFRs, raises... but bonus is based on documented goals and metrics. I don't see how that gets impacted by the "organizational planning" phrase in the policy.

"Personal choices"

My office closed and Dell chose to not re-open it. They've been asked repeatedly on town halls over the last year if they will re-open offices in major metros where a large number of employee live. The answer every time was: Nope. So how is it a personal choice to go remote when there's no office to go to? Not to mention the amount of employees who were already remote before the pandemic, or who were hired remote during it.

You act like we all live 5 minutes from an office and actually had the choice. Withholding bonuses from 50k+ employees who are remote will not go over well...

"There's nothing in the hybrid work policy that states bonuses would be impacted if you are remote."

People opting in to remote are subject to organizational planning and this id directly from the Hybrid Policy. The policy is vague enough to not specifically identify financial factors but as an M9 in Hopkinton, please trust when I say your year end performance conversation including financials will take in to account your personal choices.

Remotes get nothing, bottom line. Why, because the goal is no remotes.

There's nothing in the hybrid work policy that states bonuses would be impacted if you are remote. If they wanted to sc--w people over with their bonuses, they should have made that clear when making people choose between hybrid and remote. I can see them updating the policy for FY26, but I find it hard to believe they'd ding people on FY25's bonus if they are remote given no mention of this when they implemented the policy earlier this year.

"No promotions, no raises and no bonuses for remote workers" - if this is your opinion... cry harder.

If this is your attempt to quote policy, you are wrong. The "tradeoffs of opting for remote work" as outlined in the Hybrid Work Policy available on inside dell makes no mention of bonuses.

M9 here. It was very hard last year to give anyone less than 90% unless you had them on a PIP or talked to them about performance in writing. Suspect 90% for remotes with written warning that next year could be 0%.

Why would remote workers not get a bonus? Is their output/performance not measured in the same way as their hybrid working peers in the same role? Should hybrid workers who work remote 2 days a week see a reduction in bonus vs their peers in the same role who chose to come into the office 5 days a week? What is this an office water cooler usage bonus?

Hahah.

The company is not doing well, and has an active disdain of employees as costs.
Now X2 that for remotes.

Do you really think?
