Seems the best thing the gov't could do is to both replace the chips act with tariffs and to force Intel to break up and merge the remnants with successful companies.
That is how capitalism works. The socialist answer is to continue to use the national debt to give billions to favored constituents, at the expense of everyone else and the country itself. Its a choice.
It will be a joke if govt award INTC 8B and INTC keep sending their chip to TSMC for manufacture.
Where are all the billion dollar business influentials in the inside track? 😂
What do you think the new government will do?
Throw the baby out with the bathwater and burn everything to the ground.
I'm sure they'll believe that 8 billion is better in their pockets than in yours so it will be parceled out as part of the tax cuts for the wealthy.
I think the govt is trying to help Intel be disciplined in execution and not waste the money. Gina ran a private equity firm so her model of ROI is there.
Makes sense.
It's a matter of timing. At same time Intel literally won't be able to achiev success in short term. This is also true. A balance needs to be struck.
This will be a hot potatoe left for the next administration. If Intel is awarded with the 8.5B, it will be the responsibility of Trump's administration and Republican party to guarantee the promised result. What do you think the new government will do?
It'll be an irony if the new admin favors TSMC US wing over INTC, looking at their earning.
The fund for CHIP ACT is not given for compensating your cost without contingency... And of course, its not based on how many nodes you announce in recent years. This fund is strictly used for compensating the investment which improves chip making capacity in the US. To get the award, you need to have it proven. The government is not going to reimburse your failures, as it did not bail out Lehman Bros.
Meanwhile, Intel continues to await final word on its pending award of $8.5 billion from the legislation that is meant to help it finance its $28 billion project in Licking County and expansions elsewhere for its U.S. operations.
Intel also is eligible for up to $11 billion in low-cost loans.
