Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Promotion freeze?

Is there is currently a freeze on promotions? If so, is there any idea of when it may be lifted and when the next round of promotions may happen?

Merit increases were just made available to employees. I know of a few people that are being promoted Jan 1. So no promotion freeze.

"Merit" increases, really "cost of living" increases at 3% cross the board for rank and file so I was told.

Someone on my team got promoted this week. So, no, no more promotion freeze.

People deserve promotions whether there are layoffs or not. With that being said, the best way to get a raise is to go somewhere else. Someone said the media job market is hard. I say to not limit yourself. Your skills can play in other industries that might be in better shape and where it doesn’t feel like bosses are looking for money in couch cushions while working u to death. Sometimes it takes getting fired to get to the realization that there’s life after entertainment/media, but it’s way less stressful to be looking while you still have a job and salary. Don’t waste your time with negative comments on this board when/if they fire you, because your negative comments help no one and just come across as sad person who has not gone through all the stages of grief.

Totally normal to want a promotion when you are doing 2 or 3 jobs. Leaving is not an easy option in this market for this industry. At the same time your boss might be putting a layoff target on you by promoting you w a raise no matter how small. new ownership won’t have appreciation for the fact you’re covering what used to be done for 2 or 3 people. This years layoffs don’t count against anything skydance wants to do to save costs. New management only gets credit for the cuts they make and there will be plenty more.

There were promotions in certain corp. depts. already so there is no freeze and some were remote employees without direct reports

I heard that the new regime will require us to be on site 5 days a week with no more telecommuting. I guess that will be a problem for those who telecommute full time….oh well.

Promotions are not official until January 1. Let’s see if they happen. And if they do, those who got promoted will be a target for layoffs by the new regime along with the other execs who are grossly overpaid. You know who you are. Happy Holidays

In the last town hall they did say that we would have promotions and merit increase and I’m sorry but I don’t think that it is disgusting to discuss this when we all experience a toxic environment and heavier workload. I’d rather do it and be fairly compensated for going through it. I know there is a Christmas lighting event happened on the 4th for Paramount Pictures but the rest of paramount has not been invited.

Giving promotions/raises after laying off thousands of people? That would be utterly disgusting. To the person asking this, you should be ashamed

At this point getting promoted even for pennies will make u more likely to get fired by the new penny pinching owners when they take over. Better off looking for a new job.

Taken on large piles of work? OMG - I have taken on large piles of work from fellow union workers for over 15 years. Senior union techs who don't want to do their own job, can't get fired ( or won't get fired because of strange bedfellows over the years). Union techs who can't learn, won't learn - not pressured to learn because they've been to lazy, drunk or dr-gged and nothing's ever done all out it. A tale of 2 unions - those that do & those that dont. Bullies, s-xists & racists that still exist after Moonves. Be glad you're working & have benefits - hopefully you'll get laid off soon so you can figure that out

As someone who has taken on large piles of... work in a short staffed department during this hiring freeze, yes, we need to talk about promotions and merit increases.

Hoping merit raises are still happening for people who work hourly. They depend on those.

I think any promotions that happen now are absolutely disgraceful.

I am aware of people who were "promoted" into their bosses roles when their bosses were laid off in August/September. Not sure if this counts?

I concur with CBS News sentiment. I stopped wearing CBS News logo' hats, shorts, jackets etc. A few years ago

I'm officially ashamed to work at CBS, specifically CBS News. My kids don't know how CBS & CBS News used to be big - it's now like just like one of the other 200 (cable) channels with nothing on. CBS News is the Chicago Black Sox of TV News. I used to tell people I work at CBS - now I just tell people I work in TV. Humiliating

why are you asking about next round of promotions?! have you not read all the layoffs that are happening ..I doubt anyone is focused on promotions, except when you promote yourself from President to CEO:)
