Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

RTO Middle School on Jan 2.

Matt?
Here!
Beth? Beth??? You've been missing from class for past last two days. One more time and I will expel you!
But Andy, I was sick.
No excuse accepted. Swami? Swami??
I didn't want to get out of bed. AI is busy doing my homework.
Swami, you're late again!! You must be in class 5 days a week, starting at 8AM! Unacceptable! I will send you to detention and then put you on Focus.

I don't doubt that the majority of people leaving because of RTO are part of the top talent.

The reason is that one must have a somewhat high IQ and self-awareness to realize that if you work remotely, you will automatically have a better life! More supply of labor leads to more competition. How can you base high income on a particular office location versus actual skill? You are lucky that there are endless remote opportunities. I am glad that I can justify them. Seattle is a rainy cold wasteland with violent thugs everywhere. Who would want to work in a place like that?

I doubt that the majority of people complaining about RTO are part of the top talent.

The reason is that one must have a somewhat low IQ and lack self-awareness to not realize that if you work remotely, you will automatically give employers a chance to find a larger pool of labor. More supply of labor leads to lower salaries. How can you justify your high income while living far away from Seattle? You should be lucky that your employer wants you to go back. I am glad that I can justify my income in the Seattle area.

With you about leave. People on both sides - ones who would not go to office and the ones who would go to office. Also there are many people who would gladly take a job even if it is at the worst department at amazon.

If you do want to return to office then you're insane. Regardless, leave and find another company. There are people who would gladly not go into the office to just have a life.

The kiddie keeps downvoting the posts that are correct. Guess that's better than what the S***-Team is doing.

Synonyms for "taking out of context": repeat someone's words without explaining the situation in which they were said, so that their meaning is changed

A nonessential employee's job doesn't support the critical infrastructure required to maintain public health and safety. Essential employees, however, perform duties that are important to maintaining critical infrastructure during a state of emergency.

At least 30% of the population SHOULD work from home. Most people don't need to pay as much for gas if they work from home. How far are they commuting the office? 100 miles? That's crazy expensive. Yes, everyone should be exempt from RTO.

Yes, the population that chooses to not work from home can pay for childcare and make it work. Everything is a choice.

New grads will find remote jobs at small companies because they are so much more cool.

How many are "many many many" people? 100K? And how long will they stay? Usually that's 8 months to 1 year, which is a complete waste. Are there "many many many" high performers? Absolutely not! Plus, morale is at an all time low, so "many many many" can become "many many" less.

Who will LEAVE the "workplace" and be quite grateful for that opportunity? "Many many" - almost 80K. What a big big big waste!

Office workers eventually retire and do nothing nothing nothing all day.

almost 70% of the population does NOT work from home.

One poster here is complaining about having to pay for gas. Most people pay for gas.

Then it's "well you might get sick around contagions". Really. Well you should all be exempt then.

Or "my paycheque will go to daycare" - so like the rest of the population who find childcare and make it work.

The new grads coming out of school, I hope they get the jobs you all don't want. Because they will be so excited to be working.

There are many many many people who will come to the WORKPLACE and be quite grateful for the opportunity.

Imagine thinking you can just do nothing all day. Office workers.

Hey doctor/paramedic/nurse/firefighter/police. Since you are essential workers unlike non-essential Amazon employees, you can't work from home, but they certainly can. If you freak out when going to work, then you probably aren't a qualified doctor/paramedic/nurse/firefighter/police, and you would probably need a doctor/paramedic/nurse/firefighter/police to sort out your issues (even at home).

I'm a doctor/paramedic/nurse/firefighter/police

I don't wanna go to work! so I think I'll work from home.

If they make me go in I'm going to freak out.

I have shopping, gardening and video games here plus I'd have to wear business clothes and drive!

They shouldn't force people to go. to. work.

Yes, employees not willing to RTO should vote with their feet. This will fulfill the silent layoffs that Amazon is seeking PLUS those employees will get a much better deal. If enough corporate employees quit (like 30% or 105000), then Amazon will have no choice but to reconsider their RTO silent layoff policy and the board will then consider another leader. What's the point of limiting selection of candidates to be within 8 miles of a hub? How many of those are available for work? What if there are much better ideas 20 or more miles from a hub?

I agree with @4unp+1vwihfT9. Remote associates not willing to RTO should quit. This will allow people with new ideas close to the hubs to join AMZN. Great idea!

Lose your top talent? Yes - some top talent have families or homes not in hub locations. It's cheaper and less riskier to stay put and work elsewhere. Basic logic. Why move to a hub location only to be laid off later?

Lose your top talent? I doubt the top talent are complaining about RTO.

I think the next step is SHU. Stay Home Unemployed

If you put your best performing employees on a 25% pay cut, then you'll lose them almost as quickly as 5-day RTO :) Andy can deny and then falsify the intent, but the end result is inevitable. Basic game theory.

If you "prefer" to go to an office, by all means GO. If you don't, you should be given an option to work from wherever you please so long as the work gets done. "WFH is not a right!" ...and neither is good talent.

Oh snap! I could get a remote job at SNAP! Snap's Flexible Work policy offers most team members the choice to work virtually in a Snap operating location or in-person from a Snap office. And it pays much more!

RTO is sooooooooo yesterday. So what if it's an "employment requirement". There are other places! Even "qualified people" replacements will leave. Three months of onboarding, then leave within a year. Who needs stinking references from an Oligarch like “we would not rehire”. It's so easy.... get another job. Feed your kid with healthy discounted food from Walmart. Live remotely, breathe remotely.

Wow, you folks really need to grow up. RTO will be an employment requirement. They will find qualified people to replace you. They will not give any references to a new employer other than “we would not rehire”. What are you going to do? Feed your kid with SNAP and live in Section 8 housing for the rest of your life. You guys are nuts.

High income? With RTO, your income is reduced to pay for a babysitter, parking, gas, insurance, car accidents, sickness from contagions in office, when you can do the exact same work at home. Pointless RTO.

Of course, it is hard to believe reality. RTO and its ripple effects will be problematic for years to come. Step #1: lose top-rated employees including female employees. Step #2: hire unqualified male candidates, who happen to live nearby offices. Step #3: stagnate and spread COVID in the office.

It is hard to believe that someone who wrote this is employed in high tech.

If you want to be funny, you are not.

The story of RTO is getting old. Move on.
Most of us want to justify our high income. We prefer to come to the office.
