Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Job openings

Currently on CVS website today, there are 15,000 job openings. Are these real open jobs or just fake? How are they still laying people off and still have so many openings?

You can use categories in the search bar and eliminate retail.... You will find very little left but vapor in the tank. Remember entry level in the stores has 100% turnover ratio or higher which means it takes about three tries to get someone to last 6 months much less stay on after. This is not an attack on corporate but come do our job for 30 days. Maybe the office might start looking a little better. Grass is greener I got family on corporate I hear it all the time too. Find something rewarding, work hard for a leader you are proud of, ignore those who tear people down or tear people out of your life do their thing.

The posts that aren't fake are already filled by "friends", the other posts are fake to make it look like CVS is actively growing and building thr company.. this is a trick large companies use to fool investors since job growth is a metric used to leverage some of the value of a company.. trust me, as a HR professional for 30+ years, I have been directly involved in creating fake job postings to achieve this purpose...

They could be real some but CVS posts a lot of positions for "friends".
Work for CVS and see so many unqualified external people hires.
A lot of people at CVS feel promotions director and above are only able for pets or external friends.
CVS has a problem they won't fix ao lose experienced people. Also CVS has a bad habit of ageism

They hire at a lesser salary. That being said, wouldn't it be nice if recruiters referred laid off people into roles. If Lead Directors actually led and trained their teams for once, imagine the cost savings.

Having to train people when you're not even their manager is exhausting.

Hi @dkj+1vwUC55B. Thank you for the insight. I also applied to many roles and found the same thing. Most roles were promised to other people already. For other roles internally, I have not heard anything back so not sure what that means.

I have some better opportunities that I am exploring outside of company and most likely will take one of them. Good luck to you

@gzr+1vwUC55B Most of the jobs posted are for the stores, not corporate. In my opinion the layoffs were classified in these areas: high paying executives with underperforming departments or departments they want to take in a different direction, eliminating or vastly reducing departments all together, underperformers, redundant positions, people that the VPs had to pick because they had to eliminate a certain $ of labor, and people that wanted to leave/were going to retire so their boss just added them to the layoff.

To keep it fair, all were told they could apply to other positions. I know many who did and were hired for that new position.

Most are fake.

I had applied to about 150 different internal roles in 2024. All roles I was qualified for and heck one of the roles was literally my job on a slightly different team.

I got about 15 calls from recruiters.

Of those 15 all went to interviews and about 7 of them the hiring manager openly told me the role was already promised to someone else.

4 roles I was then told that HR was closing it and making the hiring manager “deal without filling the role” (direct quote from the hiring manager).

My boss left in the spring and they put his back fill listing up AFTER they already had an accepted offer by my now current manager. My skip level was pi---d that I applied to it since it caused HR to openly ask questions - he literally told me I shouldn’t have done that and it cause him grief with HR. I asked why I couldn’t apply since I had been assigned my old managers role as an interim position for 6 months. The response was well we already promised it to someone.

The place is a cesspool. I’m taking whatever promotional offer and extra pay I can but I’m still focused equally on external opportunities m.

Hi @pop+1vwUC55B. Why would you replace the people if you are trying to reduce costs. Would it not be better to have a hiring freeze?

People leave all the time. Need to replace those people.
