Thread regarding BNSF Railway layoffs

BNSF corporate in Kansas let the cat out the bag

4 corporate managers including number 2 at BNSF told an auditorium full of new hires BNSF is overly invested in Chinese markets and foreign markets, including exports of grain to China and based vehicle markets in Mexico and a purposeful reduction in coal shipments out of the powder river division BNSF is downsizing and recentralizing locomotive repair and shipping of goods back to Kansas City to adjust for lost revenue. Furthermore, it was specifically stated that they are going to be reliant on JB hunt to make up shipping issues caused by downsizing, and the only reason they hired or are hiring conductors is because they “can’t get crews to work on the weekends” and because of “attendance issues”. Straight out financial officer and m.i. #2 mouth. Furthermore he stated 1 man engineer only crews with a traveling conductor in a truck spread between 8 trains is what BNSF is going to force on TY&E. If that’s the excuse or reasoning they are going to ride on, that let’s everyone know who or what craft is on the chopping block after peak season is over, new hires are just for show to get through peak season, mass layoffs right around the corner.

All of sudden new hires have rights, can't even line a switch, don't understand approach medium, don't know how to put an EOT on, don't ever ask them to recite what the dispatcher says, but all of a sudden, they know what was said in the meeting, HINT, line the switch and climb on a sit down.

I was in the new hire class and this post wasn’t at all what was said. This is total BS and taken way out of context.

I am pretty sure I heard all that too, but body language was pretty telling when somebody asked if they were going to keep cutting below or south of Belen, something to that effect, and everyone of them looked straight down before answering. It’s like south of the southern transcon is being cut down, but who knows what those clowns really are going to do. Seems they bet the wrong way in an election and lawsuits are starting to take their toll, and trying to reset is a lot harder to do when the same people who have been responsible for BNSF and its decline since 2016, are still making the decisions now. Eventually things will have to turn around, but not before they go go down enough that results in a corporate axe being dropped from the top down or buffet sells

I know you guys probably never heard of the show, but I feel like I just watched an episode of Dallas with J.R. Ewing.

Yep pretty much let it be known conductors and brakemen are toast, negotiating in bad faith to get a contract signed because they didn’t expect the election to turn out like it did. He spoke that all for real, and tall guy co-signed on it. Bad business decisions are trying to be put on the back of TY&E, Did you catch that about not wanting to haul fuel and crude from up North, he slid that low key swipe in after making that sarcastic drill baby drill comment, then was pretty much like we can’t make money hauling oil. BNSF corporate trying mess over oil workers, oil companies, the native Americans who won their lawsuit, the president, the economy, and their own workers in one foul swoop, pretty telling to say the least.
