AMD Is Making Great Strides in AI, May End Up Merging With Intel

In addition, the U.S. is pushing for AMD and Intel to merge, which could remove a lot of the marketing inefficiencies in the x86 space and allow both firms to better compete in the growing battle for AI dominance, in which China represents the most significant competitive threat.

AMD would need to be paid to take on Intel in its current state. Maybe dangling tens of billions in CHIPS act funding would be the carrot.

Then again, don't expect any positive action from the clown show piling out of the Mini Cooper that's pulled up on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Intel foundry is for all US... actually all global companies who don't want TSMC to hold monopoly power on wafer pricing for edge nodes. If it merges with AMD, it will lose that appeal. Certainly It would absolutely make sense for Intel to split into product and foundry and the product side merge with AMD, it would create massive value for stock holders but that's not the intent of the merger.

No, AMD won't buy Intel foundry. The Gov't needs to unlock the chips act and subsidize Intel foundry until it can sustain itself and at the same time work to help global companies give orders to Intel ... a small portion of their orders to help Intel foundry develop and catch up.

TSMC was started with heavy subsidies from their Gov't, otherwise it would not have been possible to survive.

Let the fab go where it needs to go and salvage as much as possible.

The more market share Arm takes, the more compelling a merger would be and the lower the regulatory hurdles would be. The fabs though. What do you do with that albatross?

This seems to be the only viable way to go among all possibilities.

Why would any successful company want to burden themselves with Intel's problems? Intel will eventually be broken up and sold off by the private equity firms already circling.
