Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Voluntary Redundancies

Has anyone heard anything about the possibility of this. It happened in France I believe.
We are all just waiting to be told we are no longer needed.
I never thought I would take voluntary redundancy but if I am to be layer off eventually I would take it and run.
Is anyone actually happy here anymore.
After 21 years in the company I've never seen people so low and demotivated.
Are they really targeting people who have been there the longest?
I'm due to retire in 6 years. I would happily stay if they didn't make me feel I'm next to be called for a Business Update Meeting.
I think finding a new job at age 60 may be difficult.
I don't want to be without a job but I don't want to carry on like this either.
Anyone else feeling that age is a factor?

This won't happen for you without some planning on your part. First off are you happy to not be promoted again, because if you signal your intention to your manager that you'd be open to severance then it'll always be in the back of their mind.

I did this immediately after changing manager back in June. I had a decent working relationship with the new manager but I knew he already had a select few favorites on his team and I would never be part of the plan. I made my intentions clear and was given a package in September.

I asked for and got the severance package in April. A new director and my VP were so intense and they changed my job and made it so stressful it was affecting my mental health. 24 years of hard work and great relationships, but it was time to get the he-l out! And my mgr made that happen for me.

I worked for over 50 yrs at 3 high tech companies and I am so grateful for the employment.

But this new life now of being retired is just the absolute best. I don't miss one thing about working at Dell!

Requested and received separation in September. Management trust, request and support required.

Make sure your manager knows you’re up for it. It CAN happen however only if your team is being asked to downsized.

It really is soul destroying. If I was 10 years younger and I could easily get a job I would be gone by now.
I feel my only options are teach myself as much AI as possible and hopefully I will keep my job but in the back of my mind every day I'm just waiting to be on the list for WFR or layoffs.
I have accepted it may be enevitable. I just want to know.
Every meeting that pops up I prepare myself. I wish I could not worry. I hate the unknown and the rumours. I won't be pushed out after all these years though. I worked too hard to get to where I am. I think a decent severance package would give me breathing space to start fresh somewhere else.
Maybe train to change career altogether as the tech industry is the same every where.

I tried all of the suggestions to get it n the list. I was rated too high. Finally I said to heck with it and just quit.

If you trust your manager, then they can help you get it done. Managers in the US can submit names each month for the next round. Just be sure it is what you want, as it is very difficult to get off the list.

Age is ABSOLUTELY a factor.

Unfortunately, its also almost impossible to prove.

Talk to your manager or VP/SVP and they can get you on the list

I talked to my manager about this - within 6 weeks I'd been offered the standard package.

VSP is a possibility in EMEA region, due to strong labor law they can’t fire anyone, hence post approval from labor union VSP was enabled in both Germany and France. If you’re in the US or any other country, VSP is highly unlikely. If youre 21 years in the org, and if you share a good rapport with your immediate manager, leave a subtle hint that you don’t mind being on the list to be let go. I think the nominations for next round of wfr was concluded last week.. if you’re lucky you may make it to that list and let go end of Q4
