buying carquest was a mistake. what made it worse is the conflict between the aap execs and the carquest execs that you could see all the way down to the stores. the company doubled in size with the western auto purchase and went public and told all western auto peeps your advance now plain and simple. bought carquest and tiptoed around them and that was the downfall should have done this first year to all the poorly run stores.

It is surprising that a company operating entirely within the U.S. has its IT employees reporting to someone based in India, who may not have firsthand experience with U.S. work culture, professional norms, and approaches to accountability.

You won't know your store is closed until you see a chain and padlock on the front door that you can't unlock. Then, you'll know.

Is there a master list of affected stores floating around?

Ki-led the iconic CARQUEST brand, and let go most of the legacy people who could have helped you keep the wholesale business. Now you sold the best part of the business WorldPac. You are ki-ling the rest of AAP slowly and methodically. Great job team AAP.

Take this sinking ship private. Start over. Take the WP$ and make proper investments where needed (IT, DCs, people, new stores, parts, labor). Shane is making the tough calls today, these decisions should have been made a long time ago, hopefully this is the beginning not the end. I’ve put to many years into this place. AAP!!

I wonder when they're going to let the stores and the DC's know they're being closed. I was told today but I don't know if it'll be before the 9:30 call with Shane or after.

If all Raleigh corporate team members are laid off then what's next? That's the majority of corporate that is in the U.S. right? Are there tax implications with the city/state for relocating headquarters since I'm sure they were lured there originally with some tax breaks.

6000 people could be a round about number. Think of 500 stores and 10 people in each. That equals 5000 alone from the stores.

12% huh? So you mean to tell me they're laying off 6,500 people and you just happen to have the letter that "leaked" and you're the only one to see it

“Today, we make the difficult decision to reduce our workforce by 12%. This step was not taken lightly, and I want to express my sincere apologies to those impacted, as well as to their families. Our people are the foundation of this organization, and each departure is felt deeply. However, to safeguard the company’s long-term health and focus on future growth, we must take these measures to adapt to current market challenges and ensure our resilience. We are committed to supporting each affected employee through this transition with respect, resources, and care.”

Nobody knows for sure. It's just rumors but cuts are more than likely happening at the field and corporate levels. Probably all the remaining corp in Raleigh

Everyone, sorry it was unclear. If you work in an office stay home. Contractors too.

Just the leadership was instructed to stay home? Or everyone? And if not everyone, then what does that mean for the people at home vs. in office?

Corporate and field leadership were instructed to not go to the office on Thursday and Friday.

Unfortunately I believe you are right, lots of people will be affected tomorrow from the field and corporate, but at least they got that $1.2Nillion for selling WorldPac

AAP :

  • They’ll be laying off 10-15% of the work force
  • They’ll be letting people go before the call
  • Closing 500+ stores primarily on the west coast
  • Liquidating assets
