Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

RTO is first and foremost an attrition tactic

Anyone should make their decisions based on that fact. For me, personally, RTO is barely manageable due to the long commute. Costs will increase significantly. Efficiency and productivity will decline. I will comply strictly with office hours, so no more fixing issues and being available in the evenings. I do not intend to quit, nor will I allow them to force me out.

"Upward mobility in ANY company means being 1st in/last out of the office 5 days a week, as well as traveling hard if required.
Short of that, welcome to the world of well-deserved mediocrity."

Not from my observations. The real way to have upward mobility at Emerson is to leave for something else, then come back. Also, too much competence is not rewarded because management realizes that they need you in that position, not in a higher one.

Sadly, the usual reward for being the "first in, last out" at Emerson is even more work. Because they know you'll be fool enough to keep doing it.

Given the fact that the new president was selling merchandise made in China I doubt he gives a f$$$.

I wonder if the newly-elected US President will take any action against companies who are blatantly exporting all jobs outside of the country.

I'm a Copeland employee and just waiting for the same announcement. Amazon announced their RTO a while back and I look for many companies to follow suit. I agree with everything previously said, this is a way to cull the herd without having to do as many layoffs. It's sad, it really is and I'm like the OP -- if I'm forced back into the office fulltime then I'm putting in my hours and walking out at 5:00 and not stretching for the company anymore than they are stretching for me.

Also a policy of no new US-based hires. All new hire must be in India. What a trash company.

Completely agree. This is what they're doing instead of layoffs this year. They'll drive out more experienced people who can get jobs elsewhere and hire in new grads.

If I have to be in the office, no more flexibility about early morning meetings or evening calls. If I have to work from work for 8 hours, then I can't be in a 7AM call. I'll be driving in during that time.
