Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

When did it all go downhill?

I used to be proud to work at Qualcomm. It was a solid company, but now it feels so disorganized and it doesn’t seem to have anything new to offer. What frustrates me the most is that I can’t pinpoint when things started to change. Maybe I was too caught up in my own work, or maybe I ignored the signs, but it’s hard to believe how far it’s fallen.

a star has a life cycle, the black holes to your job is located in India, Irland, Mexico, and your jealous big boss, if you are technically super star!

Nebula
A giant cloud of gas and dust where stars are born. Gravity pulls the gas together, causing it to spin and heat up.
Protostar
The gas cloud collapses in on itself and forms a protostar, an early-stage star without a hot core.
Main sequence star
The core of the protostar heats up and nuclear fusion begins, converting hydrogen into helium. The star shines brightly for millions or billions of years.
Red giant
When the hydrogen in the core runs out, the star's core contracts and the outer shell expands, cooling and glowing red.
Supergiant
For massive stars, the core collapses and the star expands hundreds of times in size. The star eventually explodes in a supernova.
Neutron star
For smaller stars, the core collapses and the electrons and protons collapse together to form neutrons.
Black hole

The stock value of a company is terrible performance indicator. A CEO can artificially raise the stock price by cutting heads, offshoring to third world countries, stock buybacks, mergers and acquisitions, etc. None of which are a reflection of the quality of the current products being made, quality of future products, employee morale, employee retention, employee productivity, etc which drives the future of the company. If you're a narrow minded CEO that just wants to raise stock prices asap to get the biggest bonus asap so he can retire asap, then sure, it's all about the stock ticker. Short term thinking leads to great results, said no one ever.

Agree about all the comments regarding CEO. In the past 4 years, great CEO's stocks have soared, lousy CEO's stocks have languish. CA is terrible CEO compared to his predecessors. SM, PJ, SJ and IJ were polished, intelligent, well spoken CEOs. CA is a clown in comparison. Qcom desperately needs a new CEO.

The first layoff willow in 2015 was the decisive point. Keep in mind layoffs in tech industry were rare at the time and most companies were hiring in gangbuster mode.

Even the S&P 500 broad index got better returns than Q in the past 5 years: 93% VS 85%! What a joke company...

IMHO, things have been going down hill for the working masses ever since CA took the helm. By off-shoring, abusing H1B use and nonstop layoffs, he's single handedly turned the place into a sweatshop. It used to be an exciting, rewarding place to work, Now, it is h#ll hole. Remember the time when qcom was consistently voted in the "top places to work?" They haven't place in that group ever since CA has taken over. In 1-2 years, most of us will have been laid off or gotten fed up an left.

@iwz+1v
but the stock has risen in fact if you look at the returns of last 5 years. I did not get your logic.

The stock valuation of a company is a very good performance indicator. If it's stagnant, it's a time to get off the ride!
