For anyone who wants to watch the replay, search “town hall” on the inside Dell page. Filter to updates last week and it’s the first result.

The townhall email with recording link was sent out today and the link is broken! Did it ever work? Probably not

Sales working from the office 5 days a week? So Account Managers are now just telesales? EMC sales was all about building relationships, being trusted advisors, meeting customers to help find solutions and entertainment where allowed. Sure, you can buy servers from a catalogue, but you can't define an end to end solution over the phone. Whiteboarding was mu---r during COVID. Five days in the office, what a fecking eejit!

Anyone have the specific details on when this town hall was, would be official name was, etc.? Any chance there was a recording?

@1sqc+1vnGHAfe

They didn't announce sales RTO change ahead of time, so assuming he'd give everyone heads up if a change is in the works is just plain wishful thinking.

Exactly he was talking about the sales org and the 5 day a week decision. If there were changes on the way for the other orgs then he would have said "there will be more Comms in the future etc etc"

Elon Musk and Hock Tan did a number on him.

He didn't say this is how things are going to say. Don't read that deeply.

The specific comment that set him up was from a sales president, so he commented on 5 days a week being here to stay. It would be wrong to extrapolate that to "nothing will change for anyone else".

Also people here are overreacting to his young people comment. He was, once again, tee'd up by Adrian on that one and just offered generic comments about how its great to have a mix of people, not caught in old ways of thinking.. the same generic things any of us would say if set up on that particular topic.

He basically said that the way things are now are the way they are going to stay, 'the decision has been made'

Sales in the office 5 days, hybrid and remote for everyone else

Watching MD crawl through his answer to his thoughts on the RTO question was horrific. I have no faith in the man, he may be the head of a multi $B company but thats not through great management, I guess he hired great managers back in the 'old days.

I think they did this to reassure the masses, this was a special one-off call to hear it from the messiahs mouths . FFS

Adrian McDonald’s ar$e licking was sickening. "Such a great buzz being back in the office with everyone". "The feedback I have had about being back in the office has all been positive" Complete BS. Nobody is stopping anyone who wants to work 5 days a week in the office from doing so. There is no need for this to be mandated. But as MD smarmilly said, "This is not a discussion, the decision has been made"

does anyone know why they aren’t making it a policy change? Surely they could quite easily do a similar exercise to the hybrid work stuff?

"Michael Dell also spoke about hiring younger workers"

The hubris is incredible.
Does he see his own irony? He's the one who's dated.

But I agree with him. Dell is antiquated. But in order to attract younger, your company must be willing to attract them with perks, status, and salary. Which, you, dell, really have none.

Never really cared one way or the other about MD. Always disliked JC, but in this call he came across as nothing else but a smarmy pr1ck.

It was Adrian McDonald’s EMEA all hands. Can confirm it definitely happened and was just as bad as it’s being made out to be here.
Michael Dell also spoke about hiring younger workers because the young are not “bound up in the past”
The man has lost the plot.

"have hybrid work five days per week and we have work from home two days per week. That’s called the weekend”

Yeah, I guess I could be that much dedicated too for a 7 o 8 figure size salary..

He made no mention of further communication coming so there are no changes. Basically if your manager is ok with you being remote then you are fine . That's the way it was pre COVID

They act like Dell didn't have a remote work policy dating back to 2011. Countless employees have been full time remote for years prior to 2020.

“our little joke in the executive team is we have hybrid work five days per week and we have work from home two days per week. That’s called the weekend”

R-D-R-R... Are we paid millions a year like the executive team?

"Why can't they just send an email and be done with it"

why? would you even believe anything that is said or promised at this point? They have no problem reneging on their own word/policies.

MD should self-replace. He's not been relevant the last 10y.
To see him grift on AI is laughable. Shyster through and through. he peddles cheap computer parts.

I said this in another thread and got heavily neg rated. Market is looking a lot better and expected to pick up more in '25. Look at the earnings and guidance from many SP500 companies.

The future is looking a lot brighter now with the presidential election behind us.

You will see more people leaving for better opp in '25. Dell will need to get back into hiring since that will be trending. I suspect more 10-20y Dell veterans will try to boomerang back.

Lots of doom and gloom here. He said the decision has been already which points to hybrid and remote staying in place. He said nothing about that changing

MD comments:

“in some sense it’s back to where it was before. A lot of you were here in 2019 that’s what we are doing now. If you were here in 2018 or any other year before that, that’s what we are doing now…back to 2018 and every year before that”

“all of us leaders have had a chance to interact and grow our skill set and knowledge and that never would have happened if we were working from home”

“our little joke in the executive team is we have hybrid work five days per week and we have work from home two days per week. That’s called the weekend”

“I understand it’s kind of easy to stay home in your pyjamas all day, but we’re not doing that anymore”

He mentioned that we are going back to the office policy of 2019 pre-Covid. A lot of people were already fully remote at that point. So, maybe the status quo will remain for those folks?

Post ID: @qqx+1vnGHAfe

Watched it and feel exactly the same.
A lot of fluff and a-s kissing going on with far too much focus on Growth, Opportunity and all the ridiculous AI bullsh!t that he has no idea how to win or service.
Nearly fell off my chair when MSD said we're going to need a lot more people in order to double the business and hit the stretch goals!!

  • And the reason the average age has gone down is that they have got rid of a lot of experience, mature people through WFR, despite decades of loyalty, which appears to carry no weight at all from MSD.

Its shocking that they even entertained this call given the fear and uncertainty from the actual workers!!
