Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

What’s your experience with job hunt?

I’ve been trying for months now, and the job market hasn’t been kind to me. There are options, if push comes to shove, but not many actually good ones. At the same time I just can’t convince myself into staying with TD. We have been in decline for so long, and have had so many layoffs, that I’m not motivated or engaged at all anymore. Coming in just to collect a paycheck can work for a while, but then it becomes mind-numbing.

I don’t think it’s longevity. It’s how talented they are at smooching posteriors. And Directors and above excel at that.

I found it better to leave. The mental health of staying just wasn't worth it and I was able to focus solely on finding a new role rather than trying to balance my time between thinking what will our director do next to save his butt. I was able to find something quickly, pays more and doesn't come with having to deal with directors and above who only got into their role through staying the longest

Unemployment is 1000/wk in my state for 26 weeks.
Severance was 12 weeks paid this Nov.
RSU's prorated plus additional year paid this Nov.
CIP bonus prorated next March.
Total package equates to 12 months net salary.

No urgency to find work with nice get out of jail package. Will start looking 1st or 2nd quarter of next year.

(stays at dying company that is a running joke in the industry until he get's laid off, can't find a new job because people recognize that, blames politicians for his failure to read the writing on the wall 4 years ago)

After getting laid off at the start of the year, it took 9 months to find a job. That was with a great resume and a focused job search. Worst tech job market I've ever personally experienced. Who would have guessed companies don't want to hire with WW3 looming. Thankfully those fears should subside quickly once the next administration takes over and hopefully there will be a pop in hiring as companies regain optimism about the future. If so, don't get complacent and decide to ride it out with TD, because it will never get better at TD.

I found removing teradata out of my resume got a lot more interest. Everyone in the industry who is hiring doesn't want to hire from a dead-wood company with tech that is legacy.

It's competitive, but opportunities are there. Lots of other folks were laid off in the Tech industry, so it's a high number of applicants.
Figure out what your next path/move is and get working on it NOW! Trust me.
