Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The hard CHIPS question

Before depositing the money in Intel's account, the government should be asking a few questions like:

  • Wasn't part of the CHIPS agreement to include creating ~100,00 construction & manufacturing jobs?
  • How many people has Intel CPM'd despite that agreement?
  • Has Intel's leadership shown that they can manage money properly?
  • Has Intel's leadership shown that they can manage Intel properly and be competitive?
  • What are the details of any business agreements between Intel & China?
  • How much does the CEO & ELT Make? Are they worth it? When and how much was Pat's last raise?
  • What's the probable ROI on the CHIPS cash investment?

The facts are that ALL intel business groups have a strategy to shift jobs from the U.S. and high cost Europe Geographies to Costa Rica, Malaysia, Vietnam, India and China. It is being mandated by Dave and Christy. It is the only way they can think of to reduce cost to compete with TSMC. It is another example of letting finance make business decisions….we know how that worked out With not taking on the IPhone, not investing in OpenAI, shutting down aquisitions and projects way before there time because they did not pencil out at the time. The best thing Zinser has done is layoff 50% of finance.

Maybe the government should clean up their own rules too. As example, clean up up H1B and tightly restrict how the CHIPs money could be used. A few thoughts come to mind:

  1. If a company has a presence in another country, nobody from that country should be eligible for H1B. You all insist that you can work remotely, so just let them work from their home country. Before flaming on this, remember that CHIPs is supposed to build American jobs.
  2. Clarify and enforce the rules on receiving CHIPs. ie, Intel just announced $300M in China for packaging. Why wasn't that money invested stateside? I'm guessing Intel is counting on back-filling that $300M with CHIPs money that you gave the US Government in the form of personal income tax.
  3. Stop the globalization and off shoring. Globalization only serves to make PG, ELT, and the capital firms a ton of money, but could arguably be a major factor in the downfall of the company. I frequently hear the Oregon CCG VP and chief of staff talk about how they "can hire 4 Costa Rican workers for the price of one American." That may be true, but it also defeats the intent of the CHIPs act and should be a disqualification.

Remember, CHIPs money is funded through American income tax, and the net benefit should remain in America.
