If the economy turns around, do you anticipate any Whirpool layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

I really appreciate it. It was rough at first. The silver lining is I have had a ton of interviews because of having WP on my resume, at least that's what I think. I supposed I can thank WP for that one. Hopefully some of these lead to an offer. They are offering a severance for me, which really isn't enough.
I do hope you get contract renewal soon. At this rate though, with the cost cutting they are doing, I find it difficult to believe they would. For the sake of you and your family (if you have one), I hope they do.
Responding to "Layoffs official" I'm so sorry you lost your job. I haven't heard anything about people being let go, but I'm a contractor and not in Benton Harbor. A bunch of us are supposed to have our contracts renewed March 31 and we didn't find out if we were renewed or not til after our contracts expired last time (sounds about right, huh?) so I'm not hopeful. I'm being asked to do more and more work outside my area of knowledge which is also another smart business move. Anyway, just wanted to say sorry you lost your job.
Marc Bitzer has really run Whirlpool into the ground.
His tenured started Oct 1 2017.
- DJIA close that day 24,719.22
- Whirlpool stock close that day 161.77
If NO growth occured and we adjust those dollar amounts for inflation of 1.29 from Oct 2017 to today that gives
- DJIA close that day adjusted to today's dollars as 31,887.79
- Whirlpool stock that day adjusted to today's dollars as 208.68
Let's look at yesterday's ACTUAL numbers.
- DJIA close 44,534.34
- Whirlpool 98.82
The Dow has increased value by 40%, when adjusted for inflation, and Whirlpool stock has dropped in value by nearly 53%, when adjusted for inflation, since Bitzer took over.
Whirlpool is not going to attract investment. I don't know how he is still in charge. He continuously tries to take out cost in a business that probably has little waste left. Whirlpool needs new leadership if it is to survive.
Don't. If you can, take another job somewhere else.
I'm not sure about contractors. I work for one of the corp offices. If I were you though, I'd start looking somewhere else. This company is bad. There's been nothing good here and it all build down to complete mismanagement. They sc--w with peoples livelihoods while lining their own pockets and living comfortably in their multimillion dollar houses in Benton Harbor and St Joe.
Layoffs official. "Less than 1%" as usual. Guess who's job got axed. Yup, mine. This company has been the worst experience i have ever had. Executive leadership needs a "transition" also.
Idk how Bitzer is still in charge
So, the all hands held yesterday was basically the dog sitting in the house fire saying "This is fine." where they grasped at any and all bright spots in the dark place we call whirlpool. The only telling thing for us is that there is a travel and hiring freeze for Q1. Not sure how this impacts contractors whose contract expires within Q1. I admit, I was half-listening so if someone heard something else, let me know.
Well, expect sales to plummet to next to nil in Canada and Mexico. If you’re working on a line producing for either country get ready for demand to disappear.
Apologies for the incomplete post
I can’t believe that Bitzer is still CEO
Considering how poorly Whirlpool has done over the course of his tenure that Bitzer is still CEO
He’s ran the company into the ground.
In response to "There was an update. Vacancies & some positions getting transferred to India".....
Any word on contractors? Contractors in our group have gone from 1 year to 6 month to 3 month renewals. The contractors I speak with think we're all going to be axed in favor of Brazilian hires.
I applied. Got a call for an interview. If I have other offers, should I just forget Whirlpool? Don’t want to worry about another lay off.
All-hands meeting 2/3/25. I guess we'll know then.
They just made drastic cuts to the Sales Execution team on January 6, 2025.
Also, with Whirlpool pushing for another plant in Mexico, that'll hurt Ohio's laundry.
There was an update. Vacancies and some positions getting transferred to India. No word on what's going to be impacted and how many people will be cut. Seems to be a fairly big one. Many teams are having meetings. Won't know impacts until mid Q1
