Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Many teams have been reduced to skeleton crews

Good job, mgmt. Even if we were superhuman, there’s no way we can manage the workload. And why should we?

Business model here is to work with a skeleton crew while all assests are robbed by top brass until implosion. And customers/patients be damned.

"Wearing all the hats." The universal solution handed down by upper management, who, naturally, wouldn’t know a "hat" from a hole in the ground. These are the visionaries who believe that if you just juggle enough hats at once, everything magically works out.

They, of course, lack the skills to wear even one hat competently but seem convinced that by some miracle, you should be the proud wearer of all hats: strategist, technician, janitor, IT savior, and maybe even part-time psychic (because obviously you should’ve anticipated this). It’s not that they don’t see the irony—they just genuinely believe this is "efficient."

So here we are, following the wise direction of those who can’t wear a single hat but expect us to expertly balance an entire haberdashery.

They’re doing this on purpose. They’re manufacturing a difficult work environment hoping you won’t like it and will quit so they don’t have to pay severance.

Because you’re next if you don’t.

Come on, man. ...wear more hats. Wear all the hats.

Running it into the ground is the plan.

My team has been whittled down to me and one other person with the bulk of our workload moved off shore.

I am not bragging or boasting but I am far more competent than my coworker. I actually spend a portion of my day fixing their mistakes. The off shore team has no idea what we do and they are really creating more work by never actually finishing anything.

Today I got told that my coworker will be the only person on the team and I am moving to another team in our department. I told my supervisor I will do anything they want but this will probably long term not help. My supervisor agreed and said they felt if anyone remain it should have been me but the other team is behind but that's not what upper management thought. I've been looking for a new job only on the weekends but now I am going to spend time every day looking for something new. I don't think I can keep watching getting teams decimated and the work moved to people who can't do it. Whatever business model this is it is wildly unsustainable.
