Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Accepting an offer from a competitor

How do you go about sharing the specifics with the team? Do I share where my next destination is and most likely be asked to "garden" during my notice period? Or keep it cryptic and pi-s them off? I don't mind not working for few months while getting paid specially during the current environment...

I looked at my initial employment contract from a long time ago at BP and there was no reference to any no compete provisions. Is this the case with everyone?

Don't tell em anything. None of their business. I knew a person who quit and told them where he was headed. The management had a friend at the next place and tried to sabotage him by making a phone call. The leadership here made up a bunch of cr-p about him. They almost got sued. Leave and be short in your words about where you are headed. 2 week notice-Tops.

In the US 2 weeks is a courtesy. No need to share where you are going unless you want them to try to counter. Some people have successfully played the game and got big raises or promotions that way, others were told they won't be missed.

If you’re in the UK you should give 3 months. If you’re in the US 2-weeks notice is a courtesy but not required. Not sure about other countries.

Resign on the Friday before you start your new gig on Monday. Would they give notice kicking you out the door nope so why should they expect same courtesy

You don't need to say anything, but depending on where you are you located you need to give notice typically 3 months

You must think too much of yourself. No one is irreplaceable.
