Layoffs happened 11/1 last year, but I do agree that if nothing happens by next week we are safe through 2024. In 2016 there were layoffs in early March so not sure if that could be something that happens.

Layoffs and reorgs have always happened the second week of November historically. Sometimes big, sometimes small and usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday. If nothing happens next week, then you’re safe until next year

I don't think staples has filed a WARN in 3 years now.. is that dandy? NO! They have a workaround it

SBA actually wouldn't have to file under WARN unless it was more than 500 people. Language below:

A WARN filing is required when:

Worksite closing affects 50 or more employees; or
Mass layoff affects at least 50 employees and one-third of the worksite's total workforce; or
500 or more employees at a single site of employment; or
Anticipated separate employment losses within a 90-day period meet WARN criteria.

No WARN report filed in MA. (Required when corporations plan to lay off 100+ employees). Leads to think layoff will either not be too big or not happening.

Definitely not happening today. Last year it was the first Wednesday of November. If it doesn't happen tomorrow than there is safety for the week.

I have never seen a layoff in Framingham on a Monday. Tomorrow or Wednesday would make more sense.

I believe it’s around 8 weeks from when they plan to shutter. I know Pittsfield, MA store is closing Dec 13 and they were told mid Oct. Waterbury, CT recently closed and same thing. As the previous poster said, there are more of them already in the process of closing than you realize. One in LA area closing Dec 8 that I know of from someone I used to work with. Retail, in general, is a no win game these days. Staples is in a really bad position because of its ownership structure. Read up on what the end game is for private equity firms, like SP. Buy, sell off pieces or close money losing pieces, move on.

When will these 300 to 500 stores find out if closing before year start in feburary

Staples is in this position because of poor strategy, poor leadership, and unmotivated associates who have to look over their shoulders twice a year and not know if they will lose their jobs due to poor strategy and poor leadership. Rinse and repeat. SLT and owners still making bank off the bottom line profits so there is that too.

300 to 500 stores will start the closing procedure before Feb 1. There are more of them closing right now than you realize - they don’t publicize it and the press hasn’t picked up on it (not a publicly traded company, so they don’t have to announce it).

Last poster comes to a site called “thelayoff” and tells people to stop worrying about layoffs. Please, continue to educate us on how to spend our time oh, wise guide.

I am sure there will not be many layoffs.

If everyone who looks at this site and posts put even 10% of that energy into their actual job Staples would not be in the position it is.

Focus on your day to day role and be the best you can be. If the stress is to much then leave
