Marathon Oil to lay off more than 500 at Houston office after ConocoPhillips merger

Marathon Oil will lay off more than 500 people as result of its $22.5 billion merger with oil giant ConocoPhillips, the company said in a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission this week.

Marathon Oil and Marathon Petroleum split 10+ years ago. This will not impact any MPC refineries.

Rumor around industry is the folks getting separated in this pre-merger RIF are getting 2 years severance and fully retained LTIP. If so that’s a win. Either way hope for the best to those affected.
