I know the Grammy is more prestigious to the artist, but I don't think the audience cares about which of the known awards show they see their artist in. So paying all that money to the Grammy's for something you can produce yourself under an existing cheaper structure (like the VMA's, which you can simulcast on MTV+CBS) might be the issue. Well that, and Paramount has no money to bid competitively.

Granted the Grammys does not bring in the numbers it used to, but 16 million people is a lot of eyeballs. It is most likely in 2nd place behind the NFL. It was a good promotion for other shows on the Network. How many viewers do the cable channels bring in on a big night?? Do they even get a million people?

The event aired network for 50 years. My take is all the CBS people that had good relationships with the Grammy are gone. The Paramount side has taken over and no relationships the Grammys so they did not care. Just like Warner Media losing the NBA.

Its a very sad state. If I were a person starting out or had a long career I would not work here. Just one person's opinion.
