Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Why aren't Optum layoffs making headlines?

It seems like every day, someone on here mentions another Optum layoff, but you hardly ever see anything about it in the news. Has Optum truly gotten that good at keeping it under wraps, or do people just not care anymore? It's weird that we seem to be the only ones noticing.

why aren't the layoffs triggering WARNings?
WARN is targeted to shops/offices with a bunch of employees. your house doesn't have a bunch of employees--just you. so if you're working from home, your home doesn't have a large enough employee population to trigger a WARN notice.

why do they continue to lay people off?
without putting too fine a point on it...it's corporate America. if you missed the whole "for profit" bit, they're FOR PROFIT.
member fees - claims - your wages = their profit

how do they expect us to continue to produce the same amount of work?
they honestly don't care. they just don't. do your best to push back with what you can get done in 40 hours and leave it to leadership to figure out which pieces need to go.

how do they expect us to live like this?
sorry, dude, but again--they honestly don't care. save every penny you don't absolutely need for food and housing and shop for a better company.

Beckers Healthcare is literally constantly posting news about Optum layoffs. Maybe you just don’t pay attention

We are on the cusp of a socialized medicine platform that cuts revenue from payers. It will never be the same. The cutting will continue to keep the stock afloat. Single payer is the future and we blew with the largest security breach in healthcare history. Legislators will not allow UHG to be that single payer, and the people will sue if they do.

Yeah, I sincerely doubt that. Insurance companies are paying off the politicians in D.C. way too well for them to actually do the right thing. Insurance companies are a scam that only US citizens fall for. I say that as someone that makes a living in this industry.

Because it's constant and the norm for Optum - news is the unusual

Layoffs are only newsworthy when they have a body count in the thousands or a big % of their workforce, unfortunately.

I got laid off by Optum at the same time as two former coworkers got laid off from CVS. THAT company just announced 2900 layoffs, with the likelihood of more to come. If you’re wondering what the common thread is, the term “for profit” comes to mind. Every decision is driven by shareholders, and some of the biggest shareholders may be senior executives of the company.

Write your local newspaper, news station and congressman. Make it more public. Optum in my home town owns the local medical group we get so much bad press

Well UHC in the news about everything else, fraud, multiple lawsuits, denying poor old people their care, risk adjustment scores, justice department investigations, senate asking for 5 years of their security records, lawsuit American hospital association for a gazillion loss class action lawsuit , 401 k and John mess where they scre&$ the great employees of UHG millions of dollars. HCA finally realizing they being denied right and left, all the hospitals dumping their Medicare advantage plans, the one secret shopper phone call that tanked their star rating and will lose them million and million of Medicare payments. They busy paying off people to make sure damage is kept at a minimal. Once they tally the billions well it be a miracle if they don’t layoff everyone before the next earning call.

Wishing they did. I just came here from another company doing layoffs for the job security. Overall, this job was a step down from my previous one, but wondering month after month if I'd be next just wore me out. Can't say I'm happy to see that Optum is doing the exact same sh-t as my previous company. Clearly, I need to get into an entirely different career space.

America wants to see REAL TRAGEDY in the News. Not corporate ra-e of the American workforce. This is why you never address g-n violence. A real sick society
