I have applied for some internal OR roles and wonder if anyone (existing / most recent Shell staff) knows how I can ask for an extension of my end date until hear from the hiring managers of the posted jobs.

My current line manager was the one who managed the extension request. He managed to secure a date with enough time for me to secure a new role.
The Hiring manager should already be aware of your end date. if not, inform him. if you are getting the role, the hiring manager needs to keep your current manager informed, so the current manager loops in the HR rep to either delay or stop the offboarding process.
