I've been hired as PIP Fodder, how should I play it?

I'm an experienced hire engineer (CL27) and I suspect I've been hired as PIP fodder, what should I do to make the most of my time?

If I am so inclined, what characteristics of experienced hires make it to year 2 and 3?

You won't make it to year 2 or 3 if you're asking what sort of training you need. If you're truly experienced, you were hired for whatever skills you claimed you had on your resume and during your interview. You should just leave the company on your own accord at this point.

I have seen excellent employees transferred into a new cohesive group and become the PIP sacrifice, but never heard of someone being hired as PIP material.

I know of a Iranian engineer who was outspoken from the start. The other engineers conspired against this fellow. He was piped after the first year. Deamed not exxon material. It does happen. If you feel slighted or not included you are on the way out. Another I know was told they were not performing to exxon standards and needed to step it up or they would be out the door.they took the hint and found another job. Too many politics and clicks at exxon. If you have no protection or connections you are doomed.

Why would a company hire an expensive employee as 'fodder'? Hire someone cheap that su-ks at their job and save yourself the salary.

What a garbage post. There’s no reason to think you’re PIP fodder unless you think you su-k at your job. In that case, resign now and save everyone the hassle.

However, if you think you’re good at your job, then do your job and do it well and you won’t have any problems with the assessment. This board is full of people who, for the most part, think they know how the assessment process works when they, in fact, are clueless and just project their poor performance onto the process and everyone else.

Don’t focus on you work. Make sure to be in all the meetings you can. Learn the Exxon language. Understand who will be in your ranking session and network with them. This will make you retire from this company!

This place is not about work believe it or not

I'm asking what sort of training/MBA stuff should I try to take advantage of.

Collect your paycheck while you apply to other jobs OP.

This is the answer to most of the questions posted here.
