Thread regarding NCR Corp. layoffs

crying...crying...

Lately, it feels like I’m living under a cloud that won’t quite lift. I know many people experience the same underlying tension—a sense that at any moment, everything we’ve worked for could be taken away. Living under the constant threat of a layoff isn’t just about job security. It’s about feeling like everything is temporary, fragile, and somehow out of our hands.

Each day, I wonder if the next meeting or the next email could mean the end of everything I’ve planned for. The normalcy of work, the paycheck that pays the bills, the projects I’ve poured time into—they all feel like they’re hanging by a thread. It’s hard to enjoy a weekend or even relax in the evenings when there’s this steady hum of uncertainty in the background.

It wears on you, this kind of quiet dread. Plans get put on hold. Hobbies lose their appeal. And what once felt like purpose has been replaced by a constant sense of questioning. How did stability become a luxury?

Here’s hoping that one day we find ourselves in a place where we can simply look forward—no cloud, no waiting for the other shoe to drop, just steady ground beneath our feet.

It's OK, David, you're the CEO, you've got a golden parachute, you and your (literal) frat bro colleague Eric will be well taken of when Jim Kelly finally finds a buyer for this turkey. He's already calling all the shots anyway as executive chairman, so just try to relax and enjoy the ride. Next time these doubts hit, just remember how much better you've got it than everyone else at the company. You'll be fine!

You're exactly correct and its the reason most people leave. It wears on your mental health and well being. No one wants to work for a team that's a loser and does not value the people that do the real work. If you have the means then leave while as soon as possible. I did and feel 20 years younger after it's all said and done. The toughest step is the first step. If not now then when? Maybe when they show you to the door and you have no other choice? Leave under your own terms because there's no careers, futures or dreams being made there. These are sinking ships

If working at NCR is giving you so much anxiety, then it’s time to get out. No job is worth it.

I was holding the most senior years of service in my area, I was let go after decades of loyal service. 2 of us were let go the same day, lost 70 years of experience, the company doesn’t care.

6 weeks after I was hired ar NCR the layoffs began. 35 years later, as usual, the oldest engineer in the department was last off. I enjoyed my 35 years there.

It's worse now. NCR has a lot of good people, but the senior management is perennially evil.

I know how it feels, but get a grip, OP. Operate under the assumption you ARE getting laid off tomorrow. Wallowing in your misery won't get you anything. All it takes is one guy in a suit to decide that it's over for you.

Control your destiny. Show up to your job, but beyond that, start interviewing elsewhere. Build immunity to the nonsense, and you'll find the peace you seek.

The last poster is right on.

Your coworkers aren't your family. At the end of the day, it's a business, not a charity.

It's your life, and no one cares about it (or even at all) more than you do.

If you haven't made contingency plans by now, when will it be a good time to do so? I started making them way back when things went fubar in 2009. I ended up coming out of it unscathed, but I was prepared if something did happen. 15 years later, and I'm about ready to retire. At this point, if they RIF me, it's just icing on the cake.

Maybe get plan B ready, don’t get caught with your pants down. Plan your own future, don’t let your future be controlled by a company that doesn’t care about their employees.

You need to manage your own future
