Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Good leaders are all gone

I know some pretty good leaders that have been let go over past couple years that would be doing billions better than the people they have in place now. Starts at the top and when you have yes men and woman afraid to rock the boat, we you get what you have now. Losing and stagnation.

I worked for Staples for decades. I started in the stores back near the beginning. I went to the home office for quite awhile. Then went back to working in stores. I retired recently. I would have stayed. I was not ready to leave. But things have gotten so bad, I had no choice. I don’t have experience working at other companies, but this one has gone from great to a train wreck. The absence of a clear strategy, the micromanaging, the managing to a metric, the App that doesn’t seem to work, the cutting of hours, the “pretend” focus on Print, the foolish Amazon strategy……on and on. They hired a grocery guy from Canada to run US Retail and it’s a disaster. Good luck to those that remain - if you’re smart, you’ve got your resume up to date and are looking.

Well said all. To be clear there is no strategy team and hasn't been for quite some time. I was part of leadership and can say it is sad what remains. But there is REALLY good life after Staples.

Unfortunately the sleazy leaders that are left are draining the quality of the brand. Staples is no longer relevant to consumers or businesses. What once was a great company is now in the gutter heading toward rock bottom. Good luck everyone! Not going to be EASY the next few weeks but it is better on the other side as we have seen our from our former colleagues!

Consultants and the strategy team should be the first to be let go. They have proposed nothing new since SP acquired. Same ideas being positioned and moving people around. Losing good people and no one is “bought in” to the company anymore. So sad. But let’s make sure we get our owners and our SLT paid. That’s what it is all about. Shameful how many lives you continue to destroy. I would laugh at the nonsense if it didn’t make me cry for what was torn down.

It has been a long slow decline. It feels like everything sped up recently. I'm not sad about it anymore. I've moved on and so should you.
