Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I took ERP. Should I work again

I took ERP. I have not worked for 2.5 months since. My net worth is 6.25M. I don’t have to work but I am getting bored. Intel job had been easy. I wonder if I work again with other companies, do I have to work 2x harder, like doing night time meetings or weekends etc. i don’t want to ruin my health over work but I like the social and intellectual stimulus at work.

@1gwn It's compliment, dummy. Complement is for angles.

"Even if you went back and worked for free, HR would find you and get you layed off because they don't want any OWGs that know what they're doing on the premises."

competent people might scare them
you will be flagged for the next layoff
be subservient and partially d-mb, complement the people above often
even if they can't find their way out of a paper bag
and whatever you do, don't look ambitious

"I wonder if I work again with other companies"
spend some spare change and take an advanced English class
then maybe you can become a poet

for sure. i like your attitude - always find out how others achieve goals.

  1. i never got laid off from intel - always stay with the core of the business, to the depth of the processor specification. Your job is your core cash flow, don’t lose it.
  2. it’s good to stay focus at work but also keep your eyes open on things outside of work. for example, if stock market crashes, buy in stock. if housing crashes, buy house. i prefer to buy house and let others pay the mortgage by renting esp when rate is low.
  3. try to pay less tax- max out 401k and HSA contributions
  4. if you have kids, start 529 accounts when they are babies. be mindful of inflation in 20 years.
  5. try to live in states with no state income tax. you can save another 10%. it makes a lot of

difference.

  1. 401k selection is crucial. make sure you know your investment returns every year
  2. for intc stocks you must have a lot. i sold them to pay off debts when i was younger. if you have no debts and have intc shares, you can sell calls to get premiums.
  3. live in a nice area where housing appreciate

fast.

  1. i never keep a balance on credit card. only has one card. put all household charges on card to get returns 2-3% cash back
  2. i still keep $5-8k for vacation yearly
  3. make sure you get promotion at work. choose a good manager
  4. have a working spouse helps
  5. make money from market now and then for expenses like buying clothes and gifts. i basically save most of my paycheck.
  6. never never pay finance charge except mortgage. i think intelites understand this concept. try to pay off mortgage and use it as a

leverage when opportunity arises

  1. get lucky. i believe in luck
  2. love your job. if you have a problem with people, try to change yourself to get around the problem. it’s easier to change yourself than others. basically when things don’t go your way, try to turn the table around. you are flexible.
  3. when you work, give all you can. i follow 7 habits of the most effective people. i took this workshop when i first joined intel
  4. keep your emotion in control and keep a healthy mind. don’t think

about work after you get off work. go to
work fresh and sharp. always stay
a few steps ahead at work.
18 exercise and stay fit. You need energy to be savvy and stay clear minded
i think mostly that’s all. Happy to hear your
success formulae.

Who would post a specific number 6.25 M here? :-) How do people know OP were not part of the reason why the company went down?

i am the OP. Thankyou for those positive and constructive feedback. That is Intel spirit - constructive criticism. i will learn to chill during this down time or perhaps take a class, volunteering or take a short term contracting job.
For those sour comments, i understand your life is hard. i recommend you to invest wisely. Really love your job. Then you have never worked a day in your life.
I loved my time at Intel. I was always excited about Intel technologies. I have never been on the layoff list at Intel. This time I took involuntary ERP. It’s a hatd decision to separate. When Intel gets back to health, i would not hesitate to help out Intel again.

You just proved my theory that a lot of workers out there don't even need to work and take valuable jobs from people who need to work to survive. Don't get a job because you're bored or your family is calling you lazy because it destroys families who need the work. Workers who get a job but don't need the job end up bossing people around and don't need to improve their skills.

I just got fired from Intel, but got $10M severance, plus tens of millions in stock over the past 3 years of employment.

I don’t have to work but I am getting bored. Intel job had been easy. I wonder if I work again with other companies, do I have to work 2x harder, like doing night time meetings or weekends etc. i don’t want to ruin my health over work but I like the social and intellectual stimulus at work.

Should I look for another job?

Instead of another corporate high tech job, which your net worth, have you considered volunteer work? Or, if you want something more tech minded, buy a Tenstorrent workstation and contribute to AGI research. Or do an online degree.

I suggest you double the money by going to wallstreetbets in reddit. They earn $$$ by writing options for stock

Instead of getting a ft job, consider contracting. work when you want to for how long you want to (within limits, of course)

Obviously that all depends on the company and the position. The higher the position, the more they'll expect. Is your ego willing to take a lesser position than you had at Intel? If you're older (ERP suggests that you are) are you willing to work with engineers who are much younger than you? Taking a position where your peers are closer in age might be a more senior position that would be more demanding.

Congrats on accumulating 6.25! I'm in a similar boat. I took the ERP and while I don't miss the stress I'm now growing bored. I plan to chill through the Holidays then reassess.
