The correct or better strategy for employees is unless they already have an External Job Offer in hand, the employees are better off forcing $hittybank to pay for non-working period money and severance.

If you leave/Quit voluntarily, you are Not permitted to collect Unemployment Insurance benefits in the USA. You also lose employee rights and protections for any monies owed to you in case $hittybank reneges on paying the money, including but Not limited to payment for unused Vacation Days.
$hittybank is Fvcking you over, then you must return this in-kind and force $hittybank to pay. Hit them in the wallet where it hurts most.
