Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

CPM Cobra question

I took ER and received 18 months Cobra paid. Just got a job offer from another company. Can I keep my Cobra going or have to switch to the new company's medical? Better to stay on free Cobra if I can.

First of all, when cobra paying, why would you take another health insurance? People here are suggesting to keep both Incase you have job but why??? Isn’t one enough?

I am actively employed after taking VSP on 9/30/2024. I have confirmed multiple times with my new employer that I will experience the necessary “life event” on 9/30/2025 in order to trigger me getting on the new employer’s plan at that time. I was concerned as you are, but it totally works out! I decided to keep funding my Intel HSA in the meantime manually to keep building up funds.

I was in same situation as you back in 2023. I kept my Intel COBRA for the full year that it was paid by Intel. Then I switched to my employer based plan -- under life event (or whatever that's called).
Take the decision based on your personal situation; just dont do both at the same time because your claims may get denied.

Becoming eligible for another group health plan doesn't automatically terminate your COBRA coverage. However, once you enroll in another group health plan, your COBRA coverage will end. This is because you cannot be covered by both at the same time.

You can keep both, just be careful, if you have two insurances, a provider can count either one as primary, so if you new plan is better, best to cancel the cobra asap.

The way I understand it, you will be on Cobra unless you opt out.
You can take on the new company's medical in parallel.
