Just heard there will be a wave 3 in Washington.
Possibly 10k+ let go.
Probably not IAM tho

We are going to retain all IAM. Sorry if you dont like it, just the way it is. Massive retirements next year and rate increases mid to late next year, going to keep them all.
Wave 3 is supposed to be small..just to round up the numbers.. Are you sure 10K?
Aerospace industries had a lot of changes over the last couple of decades. The biggest change has been there is not a plethora of skilled mechanics and engineers that they can hire to fill open vacancies.
Way too many experienced people have retired without really passing on their skills to a younger generation.
When Boeing finishes these layouts in a year or two when they decide they want to ramp up, there’s not gonna be that skilled to work forced to hire from. Boeing knew 20 years ago that they had an aging workforce that would be retiring and that they would need to replace.
Instead of doing the obvious thing which is higher a lot of younger engineers, to be mentored by these older engineers, they decided to outsource engineering to Ukraine in Moscow. When they were forced to close those design centers, they lost over 2000 skilled engineers that they had been mentoring with workforce. Now you have this very serious problem of all your most experienced engineers, retiring, and all your young engineers that you plan to replace them with also being laid off when they close their design center.
All of this done in the name of agreed because they felt hiring engineers in the US were gonna be too expensive compared to Moscow.
Now the company is reaping their rewards for their very bad decision decisions.
This old school business model where you can lay off thousands of people and two or three years hired new people to replace them on business picks up is flawed.
There are not going to be skilled engineers and mechanics to hire from in a couple years.
young people are not studying aviation or aerospace. Aerospace engineering has the fourth host unemployment rate. Boeing used to hire a lot of experience mechanics from the military, but the military has the same problem recruiting. There’s not gonna be those engineers and mechanics to hire.
Smart young students are not gonna be studying engineering or become an A&P mechanic.
They want to study a field where they have some job stability. You cannot constantly lay off your workforce and expect that that’s going to attract Young people into those careers.
For more than a decade, BSC has been the home of the full 787 Dreamliner production cycle.
BSC is expanding...
Spare Seattle any more grief and target Saint Louis. They need to take their lumps too.

DALLAS (AP) — A federal judge on Thursday rejected a deal that
would have let Boeing plead guilty to a felony conspiracy charge
and pay a fine for misleading U.S. regulators about the 737 Max
deatҺtrap before two of the planes cгasҺed, Κіllіng 346 people.
U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Texas said that
diversity, inclusion and equity or DEI policies in the government and
at Boeing could result in race being a factor in picking an official to oversee
Boeing’s compliance with the agreement.
saying nothing of the іncompetency found in DEI candidates
over candidates chosen on merit.
The ruling creates uncertainty around criminal prosecution of the
aerospace giant in connection with the development of its
once bestselling plane.
The judge gave Boeing and the Justice Department 30 days to tell him
how they plan to proceed. They could negotiate a new plea agreement,
or prosecutors could move to put the company on trial.
“No longer can federal prosecutors and high-powered defense
attorney craft backroom deals and just expect judges to approve them”
Cassell said.
“Judge O’Connor has recognized that this was a cozy deal between
the government and Boeing that failed to focus on the overriding concerns,
that of holding Boeing accountable for its deadly crime and ensuring
that nothing like this happens again in the future.”
To think iam will not be affected is crazy talk lol. Just wait till next yr. 29 a month? If we’re lucky to even get that high. Staffed for 52? No need for second or third shift. With the knowledge and experience that’s left here no way it happens. A good house keeping is in order. The mass hiring was bodies to get the cr-p contract signed. That didn’t happen. People think the company going to pay an extra 39% for headcount that’s not needed? Wake up!!!
What I would like to see is more international RIFs... Boeing does not need to be present in 100+ countries...
Boeing will be cutting duplicate functions and sell off subsidiaries that do not make money nor essential to the company. There will be more layoffs though... around the world... not just in WA. And yes, IAM will be affected.
Yep, it was clear in 2008 during the 787 fiasco that Boeing had lost it's mojo and it was in an uncontrolled flat spin into the ground. Many retires offered to help Boeing leadership right the ship for free at that time, but they were completely ignored and are now since deceased:

There will never be a real new airplane development from Boeing again. The 777X will never enter operations either. People no longer exist at Boeing who are capable of accomplishing minor modifications of an existing airplane model much less seriously develop a new airplane. There are only clueless people at Boeing with no experienced people around anymore to provide them with aerospace knowledge to enable them to become competent. There will only be Wallstreet pundits making up BS, as has be the case for last 15 years, just to falsely increase stock price solely for their personal benefit.
We are still trying to number the "waves"?
Boeing's probably going to cut too far on the technical side like they have done so before. Who's going to be left with any useful knowledge to work in a new airplane program.
Ha Ha ! couldn't happen to a better company
