Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The struggle is real

We’re constantly overloaded, running on little sleep, and dealing with endless stress, both mentally and physically. And to top it off, our pay has fallen way behind what others are making. Does anybody feel like you’re getting paid enough for everything you’re putting in? It's hard to feel good about it when nothing adds up.

People who do their job within the scope & rules are rewarded with a paycheck. Going above & beyond is rewarded with additional money when the company allows. I don't control the budget. Following the rules should only cause added stress to those who are accustomed to breaking them. Carelessness & Negligence results in far too much scrap & downtime. If your workload is too much for you, or pay not enough, pls step aside for somebody who's eager to accept it. I would argue that whiners & complainers, probably like you, are the ones who need to go.

And you following through on this is why Intel will continue to fail. Continuing to evaluate the wrong metrics. Between that and Intel always strerching data to meet their desires is much of why they are where they are. But please, make sure that there are no errors, but place an unrealistic amount of work along with mental and physical stress on people. I hope you are part of the middle management they are going to get rid of next. Are any of your direct hires getting evaluated on accomplishments? How they inspire others? How they work effectively? Or is it just the things that you can track without actually having to do your job? You need to go!

My manager left in CPM 1. I took over the role, and have continued to be compensated less (stock, bonus) then when I reported to my current role.
Why am I here? Resume-building. Almost done.
Don't fool yourself.

It's not just the pay that is behind industry, its the benefits, and the technology. The link to employee performance and mental health is real. Employees that have phycological safety create better quality and better results. Don't expect ANY of this from Intel for YEARS if at all.

In the wafer fabs, you have to work harder because now it's harder to hide in the shadows. The technician culture of break abuse is coming to an end. As areas merge and responsibilities shift, headcount will continue to decline from attrition and R&R will become a tool to identify the weaker performers. I'm an MT GL, here are a few things that manufacturing & maintenance techs will be evaluated on:

  • Time on the floor. You have a laptop now so classes etc can be done at the tool. Don't be late and don't leave early. Make sure you understand the rules for PA, VAC & HOL and make sure your timesheet is correct.
  • Certifications. Time to broaden your scope and level of contributions. Expirations will result in a strike.
  • Don't push or click the wrong button, turn the wrong valve or forget something. No more leniency for sc--w ups.
  • Look for extra things to do and volunteer for OT. When evaluating team members, these will set a person above the others.

These have always been the case but now more than ever. No more write up leniency and GLs will be paying attention to who's slacking and who's going the extra mile. People unhappy about the work environment are encouraged to move on.

You're not alone... so I'll forward the best piece of advice I've received from this board: any bandwidth not used to get your next paycheck at Intel is best spent updating your resume and job hunting.

This is what happens when a company lays off competent engineers because they got too expensive in favor of technicians and contractors because they're cheaper.

You don't get leading edge pay when the company has sub par performance. It does all add up. You might be working your a$$ off but the company isn't performing. Here's a hint, go work your a$$ off for a company that is performing.

Here we go again, the not getting paid enough posts. Haven't seen one of these since around late July. They pretty much ended when the 15%+ layoffs were announced. Get a clue, the company is in much worse shape now than it was back in July. It will get even worse before it gets better if it ever gets better. No, you aren't going to get a pay raise. If anything expect to lose more of the compensation package if not your entire job. They want you to leave on your own. If the company ever stabilizes maybe, just maybe, they might compensate the employees better.
